The sound won't be the same dnwhoop02 . Open those small holes up . I mentioned two 1 inch holes , not 4 pencil holes . Use a crow bar , pry bar or rebar . Good job clearing out the cat crap .
My blue plate got blue from the exhaust heat . Looks like you have not started your bike yet . Mine had been to redline several times on the dyno . That makes a ton of heat .

Thanks Salsa1 for your comments . But I must add something . First off this stock can mod I feel is in no way comparable to a real slip-on system . Meaning the Jardine , Muzzy's and others are obviously better for looks , sound and performance . Granted they all cost a lot more than free . I would rank my stock can mod last . Then a great slip-on (Jardine Muzzy's ect..) then a full system first . I really can't feel the extra 3-4HP the stock can mod gives . I weight too much to feel it . I do the stock can mods till the full systems come out .
On the 5 Kawasaki bikes I have owned a full system totally wakes the bike up . I would almost call it night and day . Also IMO , Kawasaki's respond more to a full pipe and proper fueling than most of the other brands . Their engines tend to be real powerhouses vs the others .
On my stock ZX9R , I felt it was like a strong 600cc bike . With a full Muzzy's pipe , I had to respect the throttle a LOT more . Even more after I added the Muzzy's 998cc big bore kit , OMG !!

no, not yet. Been slammed with work lately, going to go get it done tomorrow though, im getting this huge 2" diameter pole tomorrow, thats solid, will grind it down, and drive it thru the center.......will let you know how it goes, hopefully it wont come out the back end lol........either way, a full system is 2 weeks away, and the thing does sound damn good without any muffler on it lol.......

You actually work when you are at work ? I watch DVD's , surf the net , go to the gym for 2 hours , sleep for 4 hours and mod motorcycle cans . And you can't complain about being tax free either , HAHA .

I was able to find a metal rod big enough to open up the holes yesterday and make two big ones instead of the four smaller ones... it was big enough that now each hole takes up about all of the space on each side of the X pattern. I can't really feel any difference in power, but I'm happy with the sound. It's a little louder now, and more raw sounding. I might get a slip-on later, but for now, I give this an A++ for bang for the buck!

Your dyno with 4+ more hp peak is not bad;even considering different day testing; also I consider what reports of just slip-on are thus far...
Not so different so far that I find significant . I know numbers are not everything but still matter ;also I consider rational that ZX-10 has lots of flow development into current titanium unit and also power curve of ZX-10R is already smooth from factory. I am hoping your results after mods to stock can did not produce dips not there before in power curve ?;that would be a good question you could answer. Were gains you found (be it smaller ones) throughout power curve?
Have heard of mod before just needed some experience to help out. I might get full system if convinced worth spending the money; I realize they often are better designed for scavenging exhaust pulses exiting and flow more also.
Have had Muzzy full system on my last two ZX-11's and was happy with results there. Can tell Muzzy has larger diameter piping throughout too compered to typical stock factory motorcycles. Looks and sound are great with aftermarket no doubt.
will wait and see what I do great modification for the time being...

Now that I found this thread again, are there any downsides to doing this (aside from messing up a stock pipe possibly?)

All I would caution would be that in the process of removing cat ;lots of metal dust is released and I would wear some breathing protection while removing (cat) . I would not advise doing indoors if you can choose to do it outdoors.
I used long 1/2 inch drill ($18.00)and made as many holes as I could (about 5-6) then made some holes larger with horeshoe game stake.
Sounds louder ;not near as loud as my ZX-11 with full muzzy system (which is ok too). Sounds much better than stock. Rips with an audible attitude now.....
