head shake hey guys i'm new to the forum and i am strongly leaning towards the zx10r but what is with all the head shake talk i am not a racer but i will every now and then and i like the fact that i have a beast that'll whoop a$$ if need be but i don't know when does the head shake come on and is the front shaking bad or bouncing or what does it happen when returning the front to the ground? is there a damper for this thing yet. i'm not a newbie to riding just to the 1000cc i have had a 600 and a 750.

The only time I have been able to make it do anything is on the track with hot tires. I got some shake when hitting bumps under hard acceleration. I have never had an issue on the street so far. I am @ nearly 2300 miles.

with 900 miles (and still under 6000 rpm) i have not experienced anything close to headshake. i still installed a scotts damper...it made the bike even more rock solid.

I made my first ride with the Scott's damper today. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Bumpy corners that were staining my linen last weekend I hammered harder than ever. This thing is now ten times more stable than my gixxer with it's poopadelic stock damper. I'll be getting a new damper for that biatch asap.

I have never spent money on a damper before. Would you say the difference to the handling is equal to the difference braided brake lines create to mushy breaking? Excuse my retardedness.

Michael.... perhaps a few lessons on corner speed and WFO might change your position on that...lol
Yes, its similar to the "braided line" comparison. ____________

Thats got to be it, I mean I not shreading any rear tyres or anything. I'm by no means the slowest in the pack, but the only headshake I have experienced was coming off a wheelie a little cocked, and the bike corrected quickly. I have probably never taken a corner WFO, no track days, I have feathered a few rears but never shreaded any. Will the average joe see the difference a damper will create or do you need to be more on the edje to justify. Is there anything broke to fix?
With the brake line comparision you reap the benefits regardless of speed. Is this the same with a damper?

Kinda. Ive noticed all kinds of "saves" on my 12... and riding the 10 made it evident it needs one.... BAD!
You could get by without one... but you never know.
The 10 is a precision tool..... like a scapel. Sure you know a scapel is sharp and deadly... but if you hold it correctly and dont push the limits, you'll be ok. Same with the 10.... only problem is.... its so seductive and easy to "go out of bounds"...you can get hurt easily on it. The damper is a measure of insurance.... like braided lines. All it takes is "1" incident to make it pay for itself! ____________

My Ohlins is a few days away. A good damper means when you can see the exit, twist the throttle and hand the &*ck on. No damper definately dampens the fun!!!

I had a scotts on my GSXR 1000 works great. I rode the GSXR without a damper ( stock gone ) It was more unstable than the ZX10. I just ordered the mounting kit from scotts soon the 10 will be much more stable. Anyone in need of a 2001 GSXR 1000 600 or750 Scotts mount.

Brake Horse Power. This usually refers to HP numbers on an engine dyno, as the output shaft is connected to a brake that measures torque. Horse power is then derived from torque. Not sure if bhp can be used in rear-wheel context (as opposed to rwhp), but so far I haven't seen it so.

I got some head shake at 165 mph a couple times and then again at about 177 another time. You cant hit 187 mph unless you have almost perfect conditions. The bike needs a dampener, especially if you ride fast like that or hit some bumps. It is a good investment. I have also gotten the shake on the drag strip under hard load when changing gears from 4th into 5th.
