6 month or year policy. When I lived in Maryland we could only ride about 6 months out of the year. The other 6 months the bike was not covered. You being in NY it was probably the same

Cheapest I found is Chief Insurance $1778 for the year full coverage with under insured motorist. It's supposedly because I live in Los Angeles CA. I'm 29 married clean record. But $1778 is the cheapest it went up as high as $7000 for the year. Shop around.

Anyone looking, try out Electric Insurance www.electricinsurance.com The company was originally started just to take care of Genereal Electric employee's insurance and crap but opened up eventually to the public.... I was told they had lower rates since it was owned by GE they weren't regulated the same way as other insurance companies

$480 a year with State Farm. No medical coverage since I have that from work. They just changed the info on my old 12R policy and took about $40 off the rate. My agent tells me that once I open a policy and they do the first DMV check, they don't check it again after that. If they did, I'd get a notice from the DMV (which I don't). Almost makes me want to go out and get a ticket... NOT!

close2death> just called Electric Insurance and was told that they use Progrssive as their carrier and of course Progressive is very HIGH!!!!!!!

Evander> Don't come to Florida, over $3800(ZX10 only) from Progressive and I have a bike(Vmax only $650) and 2 auto with them for the last 11 years. I checked out State Farm and the best they could do is $560 for 6 months. The wife has had 4 claims(Not her fault) thats why the high rate. O well, have to get it insured because of the # of people that have NO insurance down here in South Florida . My agent told me that one reason the rates are so HIGH is that there were 20,000 cars stolen in Florida last year, don't know if it is true but the insurance is much HIGHER here then it is in other states North of Florida. Thats one price we pay for the NICE weather where you can ride year around "JUST ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE"

yeah, the lunatics at Progressive wanted $1900 from me (no-tickets, 49yo...I presently pay $460yr with GMAC)...but they were in the ball park with my other 'non-sportbike' models saying, "Do you see what Progressive Insurance is saying about sportbikes?" Yeah, no shit sherlock...how'bout changing the name to Excessive Insurance...

...or maybe the sportbike mfgs should market and sell us 'standard' bikes or naked bikes with the body attachment points already designed into the motorcycles...and....sell 'body-kits' and 'clip-ons' as end-user installed options...then the insurance companies will look at the bikes and say, "Oh...its a standard street bike." And get rid of the all zoomy names such as "Ninja"...just call it ZX-10. The insurance companies are a bunch of knee-jerkin' freeks.............

And all this time I thought that Progressive was "THE Motorcycle Insurance Company".

I guess that goes to show that marketing and advertising really work, 'cause their rates are ridiculous.

I shopped Bike-line they wouldn't insure a ZX-10R. Might be they don't insure it in CA but I got the impression they won't insure it at all.
