EXHAUST...FULL OR SLIP-ON?

Hey everyone, I have a quick question for anyone of you gentlemen or ladies that have already put an exhaust on your bike. I'm still up in the air whether to do a full system or a slip-on, I worry about getting rid of the flapper valve and effecting my low to mid range power....or will it? I was looking at the full surpent micron system or just a micron/arkrapovic/devil slip-on. Any suggestion or thoughts after you have fitted your bike with a pipe. If you could let me know what type of pipe, quality and cost it would be helpful....thanks

I appreciate the info and have really enjoyed this forum, I have not been on too long or put a lot of responses or threads out there but rather sat back and observed...but have received a lot of info and some good laughs.

I have a Micron hi-mount on my 10R and it performs well, a little lean down low, but you can't mess with it mid to top end. Doesn't really matter what you get, you're going to need the assistance of a power commander unless you just don't mind the slight irregualrity in the metering of fuel on the bottom end. Choice is your and the cost, if important may or may not weigh in on your choice. I wanted and Akrapovic pipebut $1700+ kind of took the desire out of having it. I really don't race my bikes and don't require every bit of horse power I can find in it, also $499 vice $1700 was an easy choice for me. Just my thoughts.

Peace,
Johnny

These bikes are so tuned out the crate it will probably come down to sound and looks vs: preformance. I know you pick up some with the slip-on but to me on most of these newer bikes all you are really paying for is looks and sound. I would probably just go with the slip-on unless I was leaning towards racing or going into the motor down the road.

Just my .02 cents - $100 per horsepower sounds reasonable to me.

Yeah, $100 per horsie for a slip on, not for the Akrapovic though. Too much money, reminds me of my visit to Korea; No, no, you numba two GI, too F'ing hi...

hey, thanks for the info guys....you all confirmed my thoughts....$1700 beans for an Akra is way too much for a pipe. I was looking at the Micron but have heard that it is quite loud....I've had bikes with Two-bros, Yoshi, Devil, Vance -n- hines and Akrapovic pipes on them...how does the Micron compare in noise (loudness). I would personally rather have a deep tone than a loud (hear me two blocks away loud).

I have the High-mount Micron.
I was concerned that it would be too loud.
It is quiter than I thought it would be.
Down low it is not much louder than stock.
However, above 7K it gets loud.

As far as systems, to be honest I do not require the bike to be much faster than what it is now. I was hot on getting a full system, but now am happy with the looks and sound of the slip on.

What do you fellas know about Arrow, how does it compare to Micron/Akro/Muzzy for fit/finish and sound? Looking into an exhaust and don't think a full system will benefit me that much on the street so think a slip-on might be the way to go. Any opinions??

I was going to get a full system, but I decided that I really won't need any more power, and I' WAY too lazy to go to the effort of installing a full system. I'll go Hindle high mount titanium elbow with full titanium muffler. Hindle always runs at the top of the hp pack, so that's what I'll get.

I'm not sure what you are worried about by losing the "flapper" take a look at this dyno sheet with a stock exhaust and a full exhaust. Besides the very short dip at 3K you will notice that the full system takes out the bigger more noticeable dip at4k and fills in the one at 5.3K to 5.8K. Besides Hondas we have yet to see one of the other brands actually make more power because of the valve when a properly designed aftermarket pipe is installed.

Very very cool....well thanks for all the info everyone. Does anyone know if there is any truth to info going around that removing the full exhaust and cat that with a good aftermarket you can gain 14 to 18 ponies? Which would correlate to 3 ft/lbs of torque.? For me I can't justify the full system price of some of the systems out there, I might go with a Devil or Micron slip-on. To bad that the slip-on didn't remove the flapper the way it does on the gsxr1000.

Any suggestions of where to pickup a high-mount anodized Micron pipe at a good price?
