Emissions Equipment
I have the sense that the emissions equipment doesn't add much weight, nor rob much power.
Anyone done a study on it yet to see what might be removed *for offroad use only* of course?

I don't recall a performance diff on the 12. Removing all the stuff was probably worth a few pounds though.

On yours maybe. Didn't make a bit of difference on mine according to the dyno.

i think fish is speaking of gutting the can specifically. far as i remember in all the discussions on the topic, it's the only "emissions" mod that anyone reported producing an increase in HP.

fish....what have you been sniffin.....give me some!!
on a serious note....all the emissions does is recover fuel liquid and vapor, and return it to the fuel tank or engine for useage instead of just dumping it onto the ground or into the air.
It consists of a charcoal canister and a seperator/pump.

Yea.... Honestly, you could be correct. I never tested "butchering" the cat.

Om both of my 12's, I got rid of the char can and usede the space for a tire patch kit behind the storage box.
I noticed on the 10 that it is very small and under an upper front cover on the right side. The air goes down the middle.

I was gonna post a thread on this too - is the catalyser in the muffler or the head pipe?
On my 01 12 removal of the cat smoothed things out a bit - wondered if there would be much difference on the 10.

it is in the muffler. it is right at the inlet. A slip on or bolt on will remove it

So - has anyone removed the cat from the muffler yet?
Differences?
Removing the cat from the 12 helped some (not that the 2 bikes can really be compared to each other).

This need to be found out as not everyone wants to spend $500.00 if modifying factory can yield similar results. Factory can is a nice oval titanium piece; may work just fine for many of us.
I looked at it last night and see three allen bolts in rear and am wondering if we can fix this exhaust to flow free, sound cool and behave like a slip on? worth finding out. Any one who finds out before me gets a prize. hehe.
Inquiry minds want to know. and save $$.
Have fun;be safe!
