Broke through 500 miles last night...

Ah... now it's starting to fell like the 10R I rode in Socal... but man.... am I the only one who's noticed this engine is singin' tight er what? it really does need the break in period.. as painful as it may be.. the tranny has changed so much in the last 100miles it's like night and day...

so whats this "crucial" 600 mile service? what do "they" do?

For $115.00 plus parts, they retorque "everything" and adjust the chain and the all important oil and filter change.

At least that's what I was told.

not supposed to do the oil til the engine is broken in completely as I was told, so in other words the torque everything...

I can do that myself.

Manual says 600 miles/1000 kms - I'll let the dealer get me for the first one.

After that, I'll do my own oil changes and let them synch the throttle bodies at 7500 and check/adjust the valves at 15.

So what's up with the "recommended" 7,500 mile oil and filter change intervals?

7,500 miles is too long imo. But, I've also heard that you should keep the original oil in the bike for the full break in and then some. Something about the factory assembly lubes and films on the liners that actually help with the seating process.

It's worked for me in the past, so I'll probably change at around 1200 mi.

7,500 mile oil changes ? Man, I wouldn't follow that one....It's recommendations of that nature that makes me question the manuals break in procedure....

The engineers design the thing and they recommned 7,500 mile oil changes ? Do they really know what they're doing?

Sounds somewhat similar to my RC51 maual with 4,000 mile oil and 8,000 mile oil filter changes...I won't even go 4,000 miles let alone 7,500 without changing the oil..I go 1,500 to 2,000 miles between oil changes.

Really guys..That 600 mile service is just a real expensive oil change.

Fish Antlers, did they state a reason as to why you shouldn't change the oil untill the break in is complete?
I've heard rumors of special "break in oil" but have no reason yet to believe it.

I changed mine at 270; will change again just shy of 1000 (Saturday morning); then go to 3000-3250 mile intervals with synthetic at 1800 miles.

I've never heard of a special-break-in-oil theory. I believe in getting the break-in detritus out of the motor quickly.

The dealer watched me buy oil and filter with no comment. Dunno what to think, but will trust my instincts.

It was a misunderstanding... I am changing the oil at 600miles (1000k) which will be tomorrow... but I am keeping with an organic/ petroleum based oil.. .I wont change to synthetic until the full break in period is up.

Same here. Good premium petro oil, then change to synth at 1K. Fish, do you have a way to torque the oil filter to the specific torque value? I ended up safety wiring mine.

yes.. I am picking up the tool tomorrow....

parts guy at dealer seemed shocked that I wanted to torque the filter to spec...

that scares me.

they didnt have the tool nor were they very willing to get it.. I went elsewhere.
