Here are my observations for a grand total of 8 days of ownership (800 mi)
Black color attracts pollen (in Atlanta)
4k break in is truly truly ridiculous
D's right about the mirrors (I'm 6'1 215lbs and haven't figured out a good mirror position yet)
The Scotts steering dampener makes what I think is a great bike even better.
The power is really smooth but when you get to about 6.5 grand HOLD ON TIGHT!! (I've only been to about 9 grand, I cannnot imagine what its like at 11)
This bike loves the N. Georgia mountains
I used MCN's suspension settings and I like it better (basically softens the rear a bit.
You must adjust the brake and clutch levers downward, makes all the difference in comfort)
Needs a life
Full throttle!

Ya know, I had an '02 RC51. That bike beat the hell out of me. Very abrupt FI as well. Not the probs of the 12R, but annoying in it's own way.

When I pulled the rear strap, I did not have any problems with the threads. But I don't like the look of the notches for the strap, so I put the strap back on until I get the rear cowl.
Mirrors just aren't useful for what's behind you.
Clutch and brake definitely need adjustment. My clutch came as high up as it could be, which was not comfortable to use. Too much freeplay as delivered also.
Cruising at 4K, there is an annoying noise that seems to be from the intake.
IMO the new R1 gauge layout is far superior. Maybe it gets better with use, but I have a hard time making quick readings of the tach.

Here are my observations for a grand total of 10 days of ownership (380 mi)
Green color attracts sun. (in Vancouver) Weather has been awesome.
Green color also attracts ovetime shifts for me preventing me from enjoying said green color.
Engine sucks at 4000rpm...
I get lots of thumbs up from people. people stop me and ask questions about the bike etc. Havent gotten this much attention with a bike since my Duc back in 96.

I hear gear whine and some really loud rattle type noise that I don't beleive to be intake noise - what intake noise there is at 4k is very minor.
Deezy - can ya post those settings for us?
I'm havin a hard time adjusting the high beam to center as well.
Minor stuff really - the riding experience pretty much speaks for itself.

May be gear whine I heard, not intake. I usually have earplugs in, which makes it more difficult to pinpoint where a noise is coming from.
My transmission is pretty notchy right now too, although I only have 40 miles. Is everyones notchy early on? Although I'm not too worried, since it feels like my '96 9R did even after it was broken in.

200 miles on the odometer right now, and as was said before, the 4k rpm break in rule is near impossible to achieve unless you only use surface streets. Besides, this thing seems to be laughing at 4k rpm upshifts.
Stock clutch lever position really does need adjusting...still haven't gotten it right yet.
Titanium exhaust does alot of popping while cooling down after a ride.
Race track ergos are surprisingly comfortable...riding position feels near perfect. The riding position also helps to combat headshake since you're in a virtual tuck position (more weight on the front).
Air induction noise combines with beautiful exhaust note to produce an almost hypnotic race motor sound. Its intoxicating!!
Fired up my CBR 954RR on Saturday since I had been neglecting it for the 3 weeks I've had the Zx10r. Never thought I'd be saying this but my 954 felt heavy and sloooow. Damn near cruiser-like in comparision.
Oh well technology marches on I guess..
BTW, I waved at a rider on a Green (the faster one) ZX10r headed east on Bell Road at 16th Street Saturday. I was on my 954 headed home to get the ZX, nice bike, love the color.
Was that anyone here? Like to get together and cruise around sometime.
I'm in Phoenix, AZ.

Good point on the noise - how they managed to give it the ol KZ/GPZ gear whine with the intake and exhaust note of a healthy first gen ZX7 is beyond me, but I do like it.

You couldn't give me back my 03 RC51
That's good news.....I can only imagine what the ZX would feel like after coming off an RC51...Having trouble selling the RC

Are these settings easy to implement? I have never played with suspension settings on any bike I have ever owned. Is there a step by step for doing this on a 10R?

OK....so hopefully your not kidding (the jokes on me??)
These settings are extremeley easy to change....just look in your owners manual for locations of adjustment screws, and make sure both front forks are set identical.

The ZX10 is a noisy biatch. Gear whine (generator) and rattles (exhaust or exhaust valve). I have 1600 miles on mine and the transmission is getting better all of the time. The only problem I have with the transmission is self inflicted. I have slightly heavier oil than Xtremelean recommends (15W-50) and I ocassionally get a neutral between 1st and 2nd when the oil is not up to operating temperature. And it only does it when I am lazy on the shifter.
