Re room to service valve clearance Anyone had a chance to see how much room there is get you hands in to do valve clearance.
Especially with new twin spar over the engine frame.
The 12 is not much fun and the 10 from the outside looks just as tight.

Nah, you take out the airbox and everything should be accessible. I would put it in R1/CBR class of access. Not as good as GSXR, but not nearly as bad as 12R

Ummm...Ok... Tell me how long it takes you to remove the valve cover off the 12. And how much bodywork do you have to remove first? It's pretty asinine to design a bike where, in order to adjust the valves, the first thing you have to remove is the rear seat!

I think extreme's talking about how easy it is to hand the keys of your 12R to the friendly service writer at your local Kawasaki dealership. 'Cuz he sure as hell ain't talking about the "ease" of the owner doing it himself. I just check my whenever I'm doing serveral other items at the same time (like a complete teardown).
The true indicator would be how many hours KMC claims the service can be done on the two bikes. Or better yet, how many paragraphs (or pages) does it take to explain the procedure in the service manual.

Body work comes off in a hurry....thats the easiest part....takes me 12 to 15 minutes to completely strip all bodywork off

So, you've spent the better part of an hour of your expert time just getting the bodywork off...Now let's say your average 12 owner takes it to a shop. The monkey there will easily take longer, prolly on the order of an hour. There's a good chance that they'll lose the parts, or strip out that stupid fucking plastic screw holding the two halves of the inner lowers together...Or the ones holding the inners to the outers... I'm not busting your chops, but the mechanical design was compromised. It's like the design studio threw it at the engineers and said 'here, this is what we want it to look at, now bolt it all together...'.

Most of the riders I know who don't do their own "major" service, will strip the bodywork off themselves and take it in bare in the back of their truck or trailer. On bikes other than the 12, they even take the gas tank off (they can test the engine with the little hanging bottle of gas trick).
Most of them do this to not only save time/money, but to ensure their cosmetic/painted parts do not get lost, damaged, etc. It's a fairly common thing to do with dealers who have a decent mechanical rep, but have "kids" stripping off the body work so a qualified mechanic can get into the motor.
I guess when you look at it overall, it's a little sad that you have to even consider doing this... That's one area where the car guys are doing a better job than us (overall). When I take my MBZ in for service, it comes back to me more sano than when I took it to them in the first place!
