Dear BCSRA members and friends,

Below is a letter I received from James Yeung, a long time motorcycling friend and one of our members, who is also a volunteer for the Heart & Stroke foundation. He is organizing a fund raiser event as outlined below and is looking for your help in the form of donations, sponsorship and participation. BCSRA is going to supply safety vests, flags, the air horn and the large tent for the volunteers and marshals. Please take a moment to read his letter. He can be reached at 604 - 916 - 9997 for more information.

Dear BCSRA members and friends,

My name is James Yeung, some of you may know me as the "Shaolin Master of the Slide" or the guy with the silver Hawk. I hope that everybody is looking forward to another great year of trackdays as much as I am.

I am a volunteer at the Heart & Stroke Foundation of BC and Yukon and I am organizing an event that will raise funds for heart and stroke research and to support other programs that the HSF provides.

I am hoping that the members of the club can provide some help in any way that they can to make this event successful. Here is a quick description of what I'm trying to put on.

The World Health Organization has designated April 7, 2002 as World Health Day. This year's theme is "Move For Health" and the emphasis is on physical activity. Being physically active is a great preventive measure for many diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

Therefore I am organizing a cycling event at UBC on Sunday, April 7 2002. The event consists of casual racing (any type of bike that is in working order can compete). The racing is done in endurance format and competitors will try to complete as much laps as possible in the given tme. There will be team and solo competitions. Unlike the track days, you can pass on the inside. In addition to the racing, there will be an exhibition area where kids can learn about bike safety and learn some safe riding skills. There will also be demonstrations by riders, and vendors educating people on how to buy a helmet, and proper bike fit for example. I am trying to get as much out there as possible so that's just some of things that will be there.

The whole purpose of this event is to raise money for the Heart & Stroke Foundation and to promote physical activity. In order to put on this event I will need help in terms of sponsorship and this is where all of you come in:

The best way (and probably the hardest) is to provide some sponsorship funds from your business or company that you work for. There are administrative costs such as insurance and sanctioning fees to pay off and lunch for volunteers etc. Once these are taken care of, the net proceeds will be donated to the HSF. You or your company will receive a receipt for your donation and is tax deductible. In addition you will have a "presence"
at the event such as putting up a banner or a sign with the logo of your company/business.

Another way you can help is to provide PRODUCT. Even though they are casual races, I will still like people to go away with something at the end. These things can be gift certificates (restaurants, stores, etc), sporting goods, clothing, cycling equipment, basically anything that can be given away as prizes. I can use anything that you can offer from sports drinks, energy bars to umbrellas! Again, if you provide something you will be considered a sponsor and will have a presence at the event. If you like you can even set up a booth at our exhibition area to promote your product if it's remotely related to physical activity.

Even if you cannot provide any of the things I mentioned above, you can still help by registering and showing up on Sunday, April 7 and take part in the festivities or to help as a volunteer.

Thank you everybody who have read this far into my email and I hope that you will be able to help me in my cause.

You can reach me at: motorcyclepunk@hotmail.com or phone 604 - 916 - 9997

Sincerely,

James Yeung
