How much HP needed for 200mph??
Saaayyyy for a small-sized guy that can tuck behind the screen real good, and the appropriate gearing.
How much HP needed to reach 200mph? (given a good drag-racing style launch, traction being what it is at Maxton)

Can be done with a stock motor with a good enough rider.
Pretty sure Dans boys have been 200+ with stock motor 12s.

Over this side of the pond where *flyers* are very popular the genuine consensus is that for a 12 to do 200mph you need a TRUE 185hp at the rear wheel. My friend Lorcan went 201mph last year with slight headwork and that bike at the time was knocking out 187hp at the rear wheel. This year he fitted a 1270 kit which makes 199hp at the rear and he went 205mph.

BA,
My bike made 184hp on pump gas when we all broke 200 at Maxton but I was using Nutech which added about 5hp.
Chad ran 197+ at Maxton on his 12 with only a pipe & PC3 but the headwinds were at a constant 15mph. His bike made 181+ on the same dyno.
I have no doubt about your capability on breaking 200mph at Maxton on your bike with decent conditions (no bad headwinds and good humidity).
Come join us in the Spring and you'll be HOOKED!
ENTROPY,
We had alternating slight tail and side winds when we broke 200 on my bike.

Ninjamissile,
How far did Locran run to get to 205 mph ? Was it an event like Maxton
where you run for 1 mile and they take your average speed over the last
10th mile ?
There is a guy around here who has a 1270 kit making over 200 hp and he
went 190 mph at Maxton. He has light weight wheels and electic shifter also. This was his first any only try though. I am sure he could of gone faster with a few more runs. As you know, getting to 200 mph on a normally asparated 12 within a mile is not an easy feat.
I would agree though, in the right conditions, 185 hp should get you to 200 mph.

It can be done it with as little as 195rwhp, possible less in good conditions, the right gearing, a good launch and a good rider.

Steering damper, safety wire, metal chainguard that cover the entire length of the chain not just to the axle centerline, clearly labeled class and number markings. The motorcycle related ECTA rules are posted on my website from this years rulebook.

Very Large rider and 225 Hp, 199.35
One thing is not being mentioned is Dan and and maybe Bergie used Bear stacks. In Dan's case, he was running mid to high 190 before he broke 200 with the stacks. I do not know how fast Bergie has run without them. Dan sons are not "Jockeys", but I think the most anyone of them weigh is 135! Now Dan is another question! I thinkl he is about 165 to 170?? Me, I am about 270 with gear on! My step son Randall is about 155 and 6'2" and slowed down to 184 on his 3rd run! Geared, 19 / 46, he said the speedo showed over 200, so he let off and it showed just under 190 as he went through the traps. I showed just over 200 and ran 199. I mention this because I finally have my Speedo accurate! All I needed was 1 tooth taller in front! (I forgot to mention that I told Randall that I had to be first over 200 on my bike and he is a smart Kid)

Dans son's are *SOOO* jockeys!! I'm no fool. They ride as well or better than most people here.
I don't have a dampner so that may end up being a $$ hurdle of some kind.
I'll go read the book Berg. Thanks!

To me, A "Jockey" is around 90 to 110 pounds Max! To me, Chip Hunter is a "Jockey"! Dan's Sons are "Normal" size for a racer, but not a Horse Racer!

Woodbridge (UK) is very similar to Maxton I think. It's about 2 miles in length. Your friend with that 1270 can go much faster believe me. I am a fat ass and I went 190.4mph at Elvington (UK) which is only a mile and a quarter in length. My bike at the time just had a pipe and filters. My other friend SR71 with just a pipe and filter went 197mph at Elvington which must be some kind of record. That 197mph was also done in the rain (balls of steel lol.)
