Camshaft Info
Im not ready to spend 1300 on cams but ive hear of a few guys swapping intake or exhaust cams? Anyone have any info on this? How much did you gain/loose. What did you feel different in the bike? Thanks...Chris

That really wasnt the answer I was looking for. Prove to me its worth the cash and I dont have a problem with it. 5hp for 1200 isnt dollar smart to me. Im curious on options and results.

I read of a chap using two inlet cams which will give you more duration (6 degrees) on the exhaust valves and more lift (.014") which apparently worked well. I've had my cams reprofiled for a lot less than 1200 dollars. Going to the dyno on Tuesday and will post some info then on whether its an improvement or not. Last dyno test with stock cams, 1270, full Akro, head cleaned up, 199 rwhp. Keith (UK)

Want proof? Ok here- How about repeated 207 MPH trapspeeds at Maxton N/A! Tim Haig's ZX12R ridden by Chad and Zack Millholland at the last Maxton is solid proof the big cams work in the real world, not on paper or the dyno.

Bergie - We can expect an improvement on our 205.5 mph mile on stock cams then? I hope! Keith

I'm a believer now because I saw it for myself. Prior to this I was not, and I've told people to skip them. I've been told by several reputable engine builders to leave the 12R cams alone they are fine as is and the performance gain vs. cost is not worth it. Well, Lee sells intake on the exhaust, which is what I have had for a while now and a less expensive alternative. Carpenter and Muzzys are selling big cams now for larger than stock displacement engines, but they are expensive because you should do springs and retainers to match. Take it all for what it's worth but repeated 207 MPH runs back to back naturally aspirated is no joke. I'll be trying out the larger cams as soon as my wallet can afford them.

It is possible to use the intake cam on the exhaust side but be warned the spacing of the cam buckets is different and the possibility of failure is real.

Yep - checked the standard cams and the lobe spacing is quite a bit different between the inlet and exhaust cams so Rob Muzzy has made a very good point. Thanks. Keith
