APE OR FALICON

Soon I will get my spare crank stroked and ballanced. Never done business with either Falicon or APE before so I was wondering if any of you guys have any preferences.

Thanks

There has been good news and bad news from both places. It seems that the cranks from Falicon look better and have a faster turn around time and sometimes cost less. Personally I use Falicon. The best person to ask is Harry ZX12. he has a crank from both. He did not have the "Greatest" experience from APE

Failcon does good work but they will steal your crank.
"your crank is cracked, can't be fixed"

I won't charge you IF you don't need it sent back.

APE didn't find the crack. 1000 miles and 40 passed it
hasn't broke yet.

This is a worry cos I live in the UK and to pay for a crank to be sent to the US and then told its junk is not good. My rod journals are damaged, two quite bad. There heavily pitted but as far as I can see no actual cracks. Looks like its luck of the draw time!

Maybe work an arrangement with JimP or someone that lives in Tampa or Clearwater! See if you can ship the crank to them and have them take your crank over to Falicon. I have not heard of this "Stealing" of the Crank and have been in their shop, but if you bring it in, there cannot be a "Shipping charge for them to deal with. Put some special marks on several of the weights (Deep) and do it this way! As far as I know, we have several people here that live within 50 miles of them! "ASK"!!

I have delt with both and APE looked so much better then the Falicon crank. I personally would only let them do it. But as with anything I have heard both good and bad from both.

This is really something (They must be really close) because Harry said his Falicon "Looked" better than the APE! I am not so much on the looks, but remember what Harry went through to get his crank back from APE. I am positive that I also remember someone that really had a bad deal with Falicon where they went through this also!

Well Falicon had my crank for almost 6 months! They accidently cut off my starter gear which made the crank useless for a steetbike! They did Get me a BRAND NEW crank from Kawasaki to replace it though. But all this took a lot of time! One thing about APE though, Jay posts on the Suzuki boards all the time. So you could always keep tabs on progress that way, which is something Falicon don't do! Falicon has been around the longest. I am very happy with Falicon's crank work, I just think their customer service sucks!

Fuck APE! they kept my crank for months and then didn't polish it as I requested. I have another crank I will be sending to falicon.

APE crank on left falicon crank on right:

Falicon crank top....Ape crank bottom:

APE crank was 1/2 pound lighter ( they machined diameter off throws of crank)

I posted this on psychobike and it was deleted (ape advertises on his site)

You decide , APE crank was mine , falicon crank belongs to blink.

You need a macro lens to get a picture of your crank so you can tell the difference between the crank and the hairs! I guess ape just fucked me then... They did give me a $ 50 discount though ,but i would have rather had a polished crank.

Thanks Harry and Addison! You 2 guys were the 2 that had opposite deals and a perfect example! The only thing I did not know is Addison what were they saying during that time. Harry posted about APE and they would just lie to him and finally when they did speak the truth, who cared! Harry is normally cool (I know he is a little wierd) but they took Harry to the edge and back. AT least at Falicon, they are not that far away from him and he can go to see for himself!

Oh well looks like it's pot luck then! When the time comes i'll call them both and see what feel\feed back I get from the phone. Then I'll make my decision.

Thanks for your input guys

I've had great service with APE. I even sent it back to them several months later to get the balance rechecked while I had the engine apart and Jay didn't charge me for it and was pretty helpful over the phone on diagnosing my vibes. Time will tell how good they weld, though.

It's not APE or Falicon, I believe it's a Marine outfit out of CA that does the Muzzys crankshafts but I can't recall the name of the company.

Say it is not so, a boat company does drag racing cranks.
