If the oil you are using is safe for a converter, and you don't have one,
then use a full race oil with the anti scuffing agent that kills converters.
Mobil 1 is a good oil but it is not as good as racing oil with the anti scuff.
Royal Purple Racing oil, REDLINE Racing oil are all good choices to use.
YCIS is right about clutch debri going through your motor,
it's not like changing the filter only on a diesel motor.
You might as well give her a clean bath of good oil.
We could all go 5,000 miles if we putted around...
But we don't so change it regularly, I do.

The purpose of the oil filter is to protect the engine from harmful debris. Again, "ALL" the oil that is circulated through your engine is filtered.
Mobil 1 and Amsoil are always ranked above the rest when it comes to lab. testing. Just because they put anti-scuff additives in, does not mean it is better. Actually, you will find that the least additives in oil, the better. The additives are what cause the oil to break down quicker.
