Angie your 8 second slip is right there, it's in the 60'. Get more agressive on dropping the clutch out of the hole, just LET IT GO. It's hard to do but just make yourself do it and your short time will drop to 1.47~1.49, it worked for me. You have the exact same MPH I was running, only difference is 60' which was about a tenth quicker, this will drop your 330' to 3.9x, your 1/8th mile to 5.8x~5.9x, and your 1/4 to 8.8~8.9x!
YOU CAN DO IT! I already know you're not scared, so I won't say it... ok yes I will DONT BE SKEEERD! :-) let that clutch lever fly and twist it WOT!
My personal best is 1.47 60' @ 63" wheelbase.

Here are a couple examples of mine:
Nov 9th, 2002 MIR
60'.. 1.487
330.. 3.896
1/8.. 5.839 @ 126.66 MPH
1000.. 7.514
1/4.. 8.931 @ 159.01 MPH
Nov 9th, 2002 MIR
60'.. 1.499
330.. 3.904
1/8.. 5.814 @ 128.70 MPH
1000.. 7.469
1/4.. 8.858 @ 161.57 MPH
As you can see they are nearly identical to yours, just let that lever GO! I did these at 63" wheelbase with 2.5" ground clearance, using a Shinko tire 22psi, grabbing button (#34 jet dry kit) at the 1-2 shift point. Gearing was 18/44!! My Maxton gearing! Had it been drag race gearing, I think 8.6s were possible..

I have the Shinko running at 15 psi. It was only 58-60 today so I had to lower the pressure. I normally run about 18psi. I am at about 63" (maybe 64") as well. Leaving at 4-5g.
Gearing - 17/48 and I am going through the traps at mid 5th gear. KZZ1 is wondering if I should change back to 17/46??? What do you think Berg?
Thanks for posting the timeslips. That is a great comparision and I know what I need to do........Don't be scared, Drop that lever and WOT
How often do you change your clutch?

I'm not sure the gearing is the problem, but stepping back might be worth a try if it will help you get out of the clutch quicker. When you get to the point you're at now, there is little to be gained outside the first 60'. I think anything you can do to get WOT quicker the better it will be for your ET. Run as much pressure as traction will allow, push the front tire up to 44psi too, every little bit helps. Try grabbing the button as early as possible, as you already know the dry kit is soft hitting and has a slight delay so if you can remind yourself to click the button earlier that will help. It's like a leap of faith. :-)
I'm not really sure how often I change the clutch (completely) because I usually remove and inspect before every race event, and peice-meal it together just replacing whatever needs to be replaced and re-using whatever can be re-used.
I don't have a lock-up clutch and don't have drag gearing on the bike, I can't wait to get back and experiment with those because they will help tremendously to extend clutch life.
I'm lucky that MIR has the best traction of any track on the East Coast. Since both my bikes have been down since mid-Summer I haven't had a chance to practice at all lately. :-/

Angie,,,,You are sliding the clutch too long. Rac4it is correct, your 330 shows your time loss. This is also burning up your clutches. Just slow down and make the neccessary changes to your launching technique to "minimize clutch slipping". You probably started out racing that way and then began adding more rpms on launch. Then the clutches began to wear out....you just called it part of the game. I am teaching my girl to ride now, and that was her issue,,,,,too much clutch slipping with her left hand. Back in the early days, I noticed her compensating with more throttle which leads to more slipping. She didn't want to listen to my advise to stop doing that way because she was getting faster with each pass. So before i could get her to change her style, she reved up, popped the clutch on a launch, the rear tire smoking off the line, and lost it and it slammed her down before she passed the 60' mark. (we have all seen this).... Well, this happened to U too except you wheelied instead of spun. IE:too much rpm, using the clutch slippage to control acceleration. Well when the hand or clutch doesn't slippage enough, then you are too far up in the power rpm band and have alot of HP that gets released too soon.......wheel spin or violent wheelie is the end game!
We just got back from the track and she is now re-learning (open to my advise) her clutch launching technique. We have all had to "refine" our style when the weakness's limit or work again us more than for us....ie: burned clutches often.
I am not trying to criticize you, just offer a different perspective. I haven't bought a set of clutches in nearly two years as previously posted. I just ran 150mph tonight, so i don't think the clutches are slipping yet. I always lap around without cool down, cause I don't buy the hot clutch theory. I have my own theory. Now i have gone through 4 tires though...hehe I also run 7.0's 1/8mi on my R6 and have way over 100 passes on the original clutches. Same launching technique. Use the torque of the motor more than your clutches to get you moving, that way your clutch pack is locked.
If you decide to change your gearing, go to a higher gear and make it easier to launch. Try 16/44 or 16/42. Your times wont change that much, but you will be able to learn the new technique easier.

Ra12r thats easeir said than done. I've been trying to learn alot on my own because I have no one to go to the track with me and teach me. So I'm doing the same thing(slipping the clutch) on my launch. Its all I know for now. And until I either get thrown down, or thrown off...... Oh, i did that last year. Anyway, I see alot of guys winning events ridding this way. Right or wrong, its all some of us new guys know to keep up with you fast guys.

Thanks RAC, I agree. I know that I can do a couple things.
- Hit the button earlier. I try to hit it at the 1-2 shift but I know that I always wait until both wheels are on the ground (Left over reaction to my loop over last year).
- I was not slipping the clutch that bad (adjusted it all the way out to help with that) but I could have gave it WOT faster. I was only about 6-8" off the ground at launch.
Your time slip shows me where I need to improve!! Thanks.

Ra12r,
No problem on the tips. I really want an 8 second pass so I am very open to new ways of racing.
I know that I use the clutch as my "safe" zone. I'll have to work on that (Next year).
Crotch Rocket,
I am in a little bit of a hurry. In 2000 it was cool just to be out racing, running 10-11's.... In 2001 I started to get faster, running 9's. In 2002 I was pushing that 8 second line (9 teens). Had a little set back with the crash.
Now in 2003, I an running 9.o's and really I WANT AN 8 SECOND PASS!!! Seems like I can never go fast enough!!!
Thanks for the tips,

If you are going through in middle of 5th I feel a gearing change would help you. go up 1-2 more in the rear should put you through at the end of 5th so your not waisting anything there. well good luck and cant wait to see your 8's pass. something I myself would like to see before the end of this year?

It's got to be in your launch Angie. I leave at 8000rpm, snap the clutch out most of the way then slide the rest but not for long. Maybe another inch or two on the arm would help, or put someone in the other lane you can't afford to lose to for some motivation!
Here's me (right lane) and my buddy Paul running into a headwind. He has a stock motor with an arm, and I have a 1270 @ 66". I couldn't let him win so ran my first 1.4! If you can get your 330 down a little you would be in the 8s easily. Our clutch seems good since we had the puller modded for more oil. Bike needs nitrous though...

PS I hear Jon Wennerberg ran 216mph on his nitrous 1270 at Bonneville this weekend. Good work!

Yea 216 but I heard he broke on the following pass, still impressive!
Lorcan- I think Angie is at 64" vs. your 66", an extra two inches can make a huge diffence! LOL and I'm talking about WHEELBASE not what you're thinking!! LOL :-)

Hey Ang, you mentioned the gearing thing and it got me wondering where your axle is at now on the adjuster.
With a 16/44 you get the same as a 17/46, but your wheelbase is longer.
It actually goes all the way to the back.
I didn't see where you mentioned where you were hitting the traps in regards to RPM and gear (4th or 5th), but that could be all you need.
And, like they said, use as MUCH air pressure as you can, front and back, check it often. Only run as much gas as you need. (1.5-2 gal.)
Is your nutec fresh? are you running both air filters? SYnth oil?
I know you and Ken know most of this, but I just can't remember what all you two have done to the bike, it's been awhile.
I hope you get the 8 before the years out!!!!!
