friend goes down at track

A very good friend of mine that several of yall have met, went down at the stripe last night. Duston was in the final round(which he won) and was coasting to an easy early letoff victory when his bike suddenly got squirrely and pitched him off. He was doing right at 135mph. His zx9 had been running 9.90s at 141 all night. He's one lucky mofo. He walked away and with some help loaded the bike up, which still runs fine, and drove himself home. He's suffering mostly from hand and back roadrash and a good bit of soreness all over. He had on some el cheapo summer gloves that didn't hold up well at all. He wasn't zipped together so his back got roadrash as well. His bike doesn't seem too bad but I've not seen it. Mostly cosmetic damage lastic, header screwed, bars, footpegs. He swears he didn't jam on the brakes because he had to need to. He had the opponent covered by a mile and just let off to keep from breaking out. Apparently something left some oil or antifreeze on the track and it was pretty late and dewy last night. He doesn't have any plans to ride the bike down the track again but who knows. He had just ordered some sprockets, chain and some bolt-ons. Shit, when my wife finds out about all this I may be screwed. Ah well. At least Duston is okay.

I dunno how people manage to fall off going in a straight line but probably I will find out one day! I always wear one piece leathers but I must admit to wearing lightweight gloves because I like the feel, but every time i put them on I think about hitting the ground with them and it's not a happy thought.
Of course, if you are going fast enough this sport can be fatal, so it's worth bearing in mind that sooner or later you will be next to hit the ground running.

The old saying is there are those who have been down and those that will go down... Strapping the front tight increases the chances of losing it when something does cause the bike to get loose, especially a tank slapper. Been there, done that. Yes it's only a straight line but at 130, 140, 150, 160, and 170+mph in the 1/4 mile it's still dangerous no matter how good you are or how much experience you have. Even the best go down! That's why they are called accidents :-) Just glad your friend is okay and was able to walk away, many are not so lucky!

I'm not sure if I know him,but I am glad he's alright. From experience, the shitty dirt bike gloves I had on were toast,my fingers still dont look right,so I learned my lesson about gloves, going down in a strait line, shit, who would of thought, the strip was always the safest place for me,until I slid threw the beams face first, time slip said 153mph,I am trying to debate weather to sell BOTH bikes(seriously this time),or keep one,or trade one in on a zx10,whatever,I still have to get operated on one more time so my wrist will work,I know how he feels,I get pissed everytime I think about trying to make a decision, street riding sucks, cops mess w/me all the time, drag racing?Yeah, you have to have some serious $$$$ to play w/the big boys, and the way I blow motors,well...there is still some craving I have to want to race again, after all the shit that motorcycles have brought me(or I brought on myself),this is the problem,I have crashed twice on the street and once at the track,I came out with some lasting injuries this time,in my case,is it worth it?

Owch! My last getoff was my fault. Just thank God that I didn't get hurt very badly. I was on the street, and had a ballistic jacket, good gloves and blue jeans on.

At least he didn't break any bones. That sucks, especially when your old and heal slowly.
