TO STROKE OR NOT TO STROKE?
Hi guys,
This winter I should have a nice bit of cash to throw at my bike. I have decided to go big bore with either the Muzzy 1317 kit using the billett block or go with the Muzzy 1375 kit using the 4.6mm stroker crank. This is all new to me guys so I would appreciate a bit of advice here. I really want to know how reliable welded stroker cranks are. Can I expect a season or two or is that too optimistic. Also will I need a high flow fuel pump?
Thanks guys

Only stroke if you intend to tear it down for inspection once per year. Also look into the 1290cc piston kit since it's significantly less expensive than the billet bigbore package and produces similar power.

Cheers, but who does the 1290 kit? and how much does it cost?. I have only seen the 1270 kit from Muzzys.

1bad12r,
can't afford the 1375, going with 1317?
hmmmmm....
1317 = $2850
1375 = $1996 (with core returns)
If you have the install done for you the end price (incl new bearings) will be pretty close. BUT the stroker will give yo better peak hp, AND will give the lo/mid range hp that the 1270, 1290, 1317 only dream about.

Just spoke to Bill at Carpenter Racing and he quoted me $1100 for the 1290 kit which seems good value.
Now I want to know if anyone out there has one of these kits and some feed back please. Looking at my old block sat here there cant be much room between pistons once there bored out. Possible head gasket problems?
Cheers

A high flow fuel pump isn't necessary for the stroker. Mine made good power with the stocker but I added one for nitrous use. If money were no object, get more cubes. The stroker is fantastic for street riding but I'm not really sure the cost is justified for dragracing. I've seen a few 1270s go nearly as fast as my 1361.

Thats for the kit. You also have to give them your old block. They have re-bored blocks on the shelf ready to go so you dont have to wait for your original. You get JE forged pistons, rings, circlips, gaskets etc,.

yea, the guy thats gonna do mine said about $4,000 for the stroker. And $2500 for the 1317. This includes installing a billet clutch basket also. Yea, I wished $1996 for the stroker.

the 1317 is $2850 for parts alone. billet basket is another $350.
PLUS LABOR + cam sprockets + valve springs=$$$$$$$$$$$$$
might as well do it right the first time.

Yeah you definitely got something incorrect- probably the quote you're getting is for a 1270 kit not the 1317. Keep in mind the 1290 kit is about the same price as a 1270 kit, less than half the price of the 1317. Are you willing to pay more than DOUBLE $$ for +27cc? Take that extra money and get the good springs and aftermarket cams.

I have also looked at everything and saw what everyone is looking at. To do anything good, it was going to cost $3,000 and a lot of time and work! That is when I figured I would get a serious Wet NOS Kit and have HP only when I needed and a lot more than the $3,000 would buy me, but only spend about $1,000. If you do everything really well, you can get between 210 to 220 HP. 220 HP is the "Least" you will get with wet NOS!

Hello, I think if you build a 200hp motor then add 75-100 hp of wet n2o it still won't be too much!!! I've never had too much power.IMO.Thanks Chuck.

Call me old school minded vincent, but I want to go as fast as i can on just the motor before i go the nos route.
The prices i was quoted wasn't for Muzzy engine parts. I think the only muzzy part was gonna be the billet basket.

Mr. 1Bad, that is not Old School, that is Ideal! That is exactly what I wanted to do it! Then I had to make a choice between "How badly do I want to stick to my "Ideals" vs How soon do I want to go "REAL" fast! As you can see, I wanted to go Real fast more! It is truly a "Pocket Book" issue with me. I have no Pocket Book so I had to get help to even do what I am doing. Part from My Step Son and some credit Card, some from the rent income, some from paying less on a bill! I have realized one thing, If I do not go fast from time to time, that there is no reason to be here and work and pay all of these bills! To me, this is Mental Health! (I will go CRAZY If I cannot go fassst!)
