tire and gear selection
Hello all, I'm running a shinko tire and a 4 inch adjustable arm (2-7). My best run to date is a 10.03@140 mph. 1.64 60ft on a loose track (footshift). I bought the shinko and it wouldn't hook up for most of the night. I was running 1.74 1.76. At any rate I got frustrated started doing long smokey burn outs 15 seconds and as a result I'm down to the ware indicator after one trip to the strip. My question is on a loose track would the mickey thompson shootout tire be better? As the night wore on I ended up lowering my tire pressure to 15 psi. I run 16-46 gearing and weigh 230 with leathers. I was thinking of trying the 16-47 combo because I'm going thru the traps at and indicated 11k. The tac says 12.5 before it bounces off rev limiter. I've also been told to gear the bike to go thru 5th gear instead of 4th. What do you guys think? Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. thanks

You might like 16-49 for a gear. Depending what you have done to your bike, you want to go thru the traps just before the rev limiter hits. Whether you use 4 or 5 gears. A lot of people are using 17-51 for a gear.

I'd be curious about your rear shock settings and weight. It almost sounds like you are shocking the tire loose. I think the Schinko should have been fine for you.
But, to answer your question, I think that YES, the MCR2 is a slightly softer compound and FOR THE STRIP it is a slightly better tire.
Personally, I love my Schinko, I think it's an awesome tire, but if it isn't workin' for ya then by all means get the MCR2.
