Rough Running Below 3K

Ok 1270 motor with Yosh EMS stock cams, bear stacks and Muzzy pipe and K@N's. Lately below 3000 rpm under light throttle or cruising throttle my bike has been doing what can be best described as a hiccup. It just completely shuts off for split second and then comes back on. It kind of gives a little hiccup out the exhaust and spits and sputters. It only does it below 3K with cruising throttle or light accelleration throttle. Anything above 3K and its fine. It always did sputter just a tad bit due to the Muzzy but I pretty much have that tuned out. This is something different. It acts like the whole bike is just shutting off. No symptom on the tach, it holds steady as a rock, just the engine hiccups. I guess maybe start at the fuel map and make sure its not corrupted someplace somehow. Above 3K it runs excellent

not sure if you saw my posts on this recently, but I had the same symptom,....and it can most definitely be said that it isn't the "pipe" kind of problem. It's much worse.

Mine would do as you said, and, also, it would try to die when pulling away from a stop.
Also, mine was good above 4000rpm, OR when you were wide open throttle.

It ended up being a badly cracked vacuum hose connected to the Pressure Sensor on the upper left/front side of the engine. (obviously, there is no vacuum when under wide open throttle, thus it would run fairly well then)

You might want to give that a quick check just to be sure...

That was one thing I thought about. Pretty much in the past people have said that the bikes with the Muzzy pipe run like A$$ below 3K. Something to do with uneven pressure pulses and how the FI maps. I'll look there first.

Thanks for the reply...

Not really practical when driving slow or just cruising across town...

well you dont have to ride in 6th all the time....even 25mph is over 3k rpm in 1st gear.

Supposedly it can be mapped out....ill eventually get that done...however I suppose ive just gotten used to it by now...I find myself doing odd things with other peoples bikes when I ride them expecting the surging to follow me from bike to bike

This stumble, hiccupping isn't due to the Muzzy pipe. Its something new. Before this started it ran fairly well below 3K in any gear. It was no problem to cruise across town in 6th gear running under 3K. With the 1270 no need to rev since it makes good low end power. I think BA might be on the right track with a vaccum leak or sensor problem..

Well I think I am on the right track. No ECU fault codes or anything. Nothing out of spec. TPS voltage good. Only thing left to check was the Yosh EMS. Took it out and it ran fine. Called Yosh they said send it in and they will check it out. If need be they will put it on another bike to troubleshoot. Kind of suprised it might be the EMS as they are usually pretty reliable from what I have seen...
