Millenium in Wisconsin is where just about everybody sends their cylinder to. I am on my second set of 1290's, first set I had a valve hit the top of piston & break off. Big time repair bill, took out my cylinder damaged my head, etc. etc. Make sure you have enough valve to piston top clearance. Might want to have someone clean up the head a little. There's a lot you can do, just depends how much you want to spend, & how fast you want to go!

send it to Millenium. Should take around 2 weeks. You need to go to the website and print out a work order and fill it out...it will make things go faster and make sure to send your pistons with the cylinder. As for the head...we can do the street/strip port work for $550.00

Ra, is there anyone out there that would guarantee a mph improvement? If so, that's news to me! A dyno hp range maybe, like cams. Way too many variables involved for a mph promise!

Well addisonzx12, I believe you have a carpenter motor and he stands behind his work.....

But asking a logical question, why would you have any work done on any level if after all the work and money gets you "nothing"?? (performance improvement)

If the builder is creditable, then the builder knows what BASIC improvements WILL occur for the services that they render. (Because they will have some testing results)

Knowing this motor as I do, i am wondering what a "street/strip" port job is?!?!?! For what gains are they doing a "street/strip" port job for?!?!

Spencer, what are the SPECIFIC GAINS from "your" machine work?

Craig Hansen of Flo-tec built my motor, not Carpenter. Flo-tec is way more reasonable on the price, so I hear anyway.

I think the reason folks like Doug and others don't usually advertise a certain hp or mph increase is that there are too many other variables involved, and no 2 motors are the same. Let's say Doug ports Racer A's ZX12 head, and with his combo, he had everything else the motor needed except the port work, in a good combination, tuned and mapped appropriately. He gained 10hp. Then Doug ports Racer B's head, who had a tired motor, with a poor combination of parts, not tuned, and mapped horribly. He lost 2 hp. Then Racer B jumps all over the internet screaming that Doug's port work is terrible, and he got ripped off. Doug gets bad press, through no fault of his own. Make sense?

sorry ra12, but I gotta agree with these guys. I DO see your point, and i sure wish it was like that, but, when someone shells out $$$ for headwork, they are not buying a MPH increase.

They are purchasing the POTENTIAL for increased HP and MPH which is obviously dependant upon a whole combination.

Now, to flip the coin in your favor a little bit, if someone purchases a "KIT", ie. head, cams, pistons, to put onto a STOCK motor, then a seller can potentially say "you should get 5-9MPH more with this kit". Or, a complete engine can be "capable" of running 162mph or something.

Seems to me that Brock is trying one of those routes. Known combinations on specific bikes is yielding fairly consistent HP numbers.

what I'd want from my head work is a chart of my flow numbers, at different lift points both before and after the change. I would also like to see a GUESSTIMATE of the HP increase at peak, and want to know if I will lose peak torque or not, which the flow numbers should show anyway.

Craig Hansen did my head on my Zx9 a few years ago.
never fucking again he took over 6 months and i missed alot of riding including a funeral ride for a friend that died
he was more concerned with his shootout bike and going out streetracing then he was to get a paying customers shit done
