Anyone bigger than a 1270 ?
Is there anyone out there running a bigger motor than the 1270 ? If so, how is the reliability ?

I have a Muzzy 1361 Kit and I have had nothing but good luck with it this season, best 1/8th mile pass was a 5.97@121 so far. cool weather is coming though!!
Mad Mike
last year I had some problems but I believe it was due to the builder (me).

1427: i've had problems but I think they all stem from one horrific (over vertical) wheelie which crushed the oil pan. It's running fine these days!

yes it is a complete kit. I belive Karl started also with the 1361.... you send your crank and block in and they send you the pistons, crank block and spacer plate back.....

Karl, you need to get one of the billet pans coming from spencercycle.....and get you a sidewinder on that thing! Then you will be all up in the 8s with no oil pan worries! Low as you can go!

I think RECOMMEND the adjustable cam sprockets with the 1361.
Anyone have a buildable crank? I feel the urge.

A friend of mine just smashed his pan on his 1270. Oiled the track down so badly that they called it a day with 8 bikes still left. It stood up on him bigtime when he hit the button in second gear. It also shoved the forks up in the clamps until the radiator and plastic wouldn't let them go any higher. He stayed upright and even won the grudgerace cause the other dude redlit! I'm thinking he put the pill in it that I drilled out for him. Probably around a 70hp shot! Coulda been the shinko he just put on it to replace his split M/T also.
My old 1361 has around 7k on it and still runs great. If only it were still mine. I miss 3rd gear power wheelies!

1361 is the sweetest motor I have ever ridden (havent tried a 1427 yet), many miles and I would say this is the engine everyone thought they were going to get when they bought a ZX12!. But of course I have to go and ruin a good thing and have my head ported and flowed and install muzzys new cams just because they are there ,I'll probably sell my motor as soon as it is finished without even trying it thats how confident I am that the 1361 was the best and anything else done to it just ruins it.

I have the carpenter 1290 kit. cnc headwork, stock cams reground, etc. Carpenter claims on his website 203 hp. I dynoed mine and got real close to that number! Needless to say I'm a very happy customer. However, I use to own a stage three(lee shierts)built busa. My zx12r is faster for sure (quartermile times prove it). But, the ole bus felt faster due to its low end torque. The bus use to CRUSH other bikes immediately on rollons. The zx12 takes a little longer to do the same. My zx12 has alot stronger pull on top. Its too different animals. My point is If I were to do it again i would have gone with the 1361. TORQUE!!!!! Most of the time when i'm on the street, and pull a race, they are relatively short distances( again torque would have made a big difference. Good luck!!
