ET calculations based on density altitude

Hey folks. I'm too cheap to go out and buy a $400 electronic weather station that will do the calculations for me, so I was wondering if anyone here knew where I could get a hold of the formulas for calculating the ET changes based on the different density altitudes.

I figure I can get away with a good thermometer and barometer and just do the calculations myself.

Good luck, I've been searching for a formula that could give an effective altitude figure for a long time. Using Barometric pressure, temp, and relative humidity, you think there would be one. I'm thinking I'll just have to invest in a special calculator. (expensive only because they have the "secret formula")

Actually, I do have the "secret formula" that you are looking for. Try taking some ground school at the local airport. You will learn a term called 'density altitude.' This is what you've been calling 'effective altitude.'

Just do a google search for 'calculating density altitude' and you'll get all the formulas you can handle.

edit: Thank you very much. You know how they say that the best way to help yourself is to help others? While I was writing this, I answered my own question. It's not a direct shot from density altitude to ET. You have to take your new density altitude and calculate how it affects your horsepower. (this will be an approximation) Using the ratio of your old to new horsepower, you can find your new ET!!!

Wow! My mind does work occasionally. Now, I just have to derive the equations so I can just plug and play at the track.

Can you give me a formula for minimal tappet diameter to lobe lift?!
