Newb needs help please!!
Hello everyone, I need some advice on getting my bike to hook up.
Heres my stats:
1.82 60ft
6.95 1/8 th
10.50@ 140.54
Weather conditions: Low 90's, 60 percent humidity
rider weight with gear: 225 lb's
elevation: 5300 ft
tire pressure front 40, rear 30
parts- dogbone to middle setting, lowered fork tubes 3/4 of an inch, strapped, stock wheel base.
launch approx 5500 rpm, bike lifting front tire toward the end of 1st gear after reaching throttle lock, foot shifted.
gears 16-44
hindle pipe
p/c
* have run a best of 1.75 60ft'r but not on this day.
Since this is a street bike first and dragbike second I was thinking of going with bolt on swingarm extentions.
What would be the optimal length? What length of chain and brand of chain? Should I go to a MT shoot out tire? What about gearing? I'm going through the traps in 4th gear about 7500 rpm at the moment.
Now I know practice is the key, I've read of some of you guys running some amazing 60ft's. (stock clutch 02 model)
For the record most street guys here (street bike 100 percent stock no lowering etc.)are lucky to run high 1.8's 60fts. The guys with the slammed set up and slicks, wheely bars, run a best of low 1.5's at this mile high track. I dont really want to put a slick and wheely bar on the bike I want to keep it as near as stock looking as possible.(street sleeper-street sweeper)
My goal is to put this bike into the 9's without nos at high altitude thanks in advance!!

One of the things I found that took about .3 seconds off my time when I first started was shifting at a higher rpm. I'm not sure if you know this, but the 12 runs quicker the closer to redline you shift.
I used to shift at 11.5K rpm (indicated.) I found out that my tach is about 500 rpm off, so it turned out that I was really shifting at 11K rpm. I started shifting a 12K rpm indicated and dropped .3 seconds off my ET.
Try that.
Oh, by the way, if your front end is coming up in first gear, it's obvious you don't have traction problems. You don't need the shootout tire, but you may if you go with the extended swingarm.

I don't see how you could be going across the line in 4th at only 7500rpm unless you are seriously short shifting the bike? I realize you're at a high elevation, have you had your bike mapped for that elevation? It may need some special tuning not just a base-map for your mods. Otherwise it sounds like you have the bike setup properly. I would suggest stepping up the gear slightly for your weight as long as you're not having wheelie problems on the 1-2 shift, go back to the stock 46-tooth rear sprocket and keep the 16 up front. Also don't wind the clutch out too far experiment with letting it go earlier and getting WOT quicker. #1 make sure you hold your shifts until a solid "indicated" 11500 if not closer to an "indicated" 12,000. Are you sure you are getting 100% WOT (to the throttle stop)? If not preload up on the throttle. Also preload the shift lever with your foot, applying pulling upward force to the shifter while running thru the gears then slightly "blip" the throttle to achieve the shift. This is clutchless up shifting, practice makes perfect and will improve your ET significantly. You should not be using the clutch at all except coming off the line. As far as tire goes you don't need a M/T MCR2 tire. At best you might consider a Shinko, but the stock Dunlop is good for mid to low 9s especially with a slightly heavier rider on board. If your local track conditions justify a stickier tire, consider the Shinko before going all out with a M/T which is essentially a drag tire. Give those things a try, let us know how you do! Good luck!

Thanks Wannabe and Race4it for the advice. I read a few weeks back about keeping the rpm's way up. It helped I gained two mile in hour in the traps. I'm just getting into 4th gear about 50ft from the traps. I can't hold third because it bounces off the rev limiter just before the traps. I'll switch the rear gear back to stock as race4it suggested and see what happens. How should I have my suspension set as far as messing with the rear? How much would my 60ft's drop with the extended swingarm? If i went with a 6 inch how much longer does the chain need to be?

I set front fork spring preload loose tied down to 65 mm from bottom. Rear dropped to bottom hole loosen rear spring 2 turns. this keeps front down real good. I am200lbs and run 1.61 to1.67 60ft 6.05 ave.1/8 116mph best 1/4et 9.81@146.8 on stock motor. good for my sorry ass!! Our track is very slick so I use mt tire. stock wheel base. good luck have fun win or lose!
