Stock Mild to Wild/Muzzys 1317 BigBlock Build...

OK...first report on the 1317 we are building...
Ryan is working on the head...cleaning up the ports and "slight reshaping" in some areas...picked up almost 10CFM already (we didn't bench-check the 1361 head when we built it)...This flow reading was taken at the valve lift of the cam that will be in the motor...
MORE later as it comes together

Bigger but lighter pistons? Is it obvious what MTC did differently then JE to account for the weight savings?

I took some pictures of the MTC pistons but the camera didn't come with a power cable so I can't download them yet. I ordered a cable that should be here around the end of this week. Basicaly the wrist pins of the MTC pistons are about 20 mm shorter than the ones on the 1270 JE pistons so that is where a lot of the weight savings is coming from. Maybe Kevin can weigh the pins against each other if he has time.
With the Carillo rods and the MTC pistons there will be a total of 256 grams less reciprocating weight with the 1317 kit copared to the 1270 kit that used to be in the motor. I don't know what the difference is between a stock crank and the lightened one from Falicon but with everything being lighter going into this motor hopefully it will pick up revs a little quicker than before.

I am watching this also!! I want to get 1340 out of my engine with +4 mm Crank and +.5 mm pistons (Which will more than likely make it a 1325) Wiseco and MTC (At least I think it is MTC) always had strong but Heavy pistons vs stock! I know that Falicon had tapered Wrist pins with the thickest in the Middle and I rounded the ends off so I could use round circlips, not that Spirolock that always found a way out of the engine! With my other Mods, I am going to get to 200 on Motor or go on a Diet to get there! Yes that serious! Thanks Kevin!

The wrist pins are noticably SHORTER...piston is also "narrow" in the pin area

THE MOTOR IS TOGETHER!!!
SHoooooo...Nothing easy when building a new combination...for the first time but...it IS done...
Need to install the TBs, clutch, stator, and wire harness but...it WILL "bark" late today/tonight...
If your all nice to me I'll post some #s after it has some heat cycles/dyno time...
NO MAX POWER #s until it has been mapped at 100% throttle...after some street miles and first oil change
MAN...I'm glad this puppy is finally together

KC,
Could you tell me what CC pressure do you have??? And what base gasket(s) and head gasket are you using?

My 1427 is going back together Wed now that Milennium has "straightened" the block by surface grinding .005" off it. I want to end up with about 230-240psi. Whatta ya think???

I KNOW you are busy AND very PUMPED!!!!!

any info you can give will be MUCH appreciated, real imp to know the CC psi, eh? Especially if the motor you are building/testing is gonna run race gas!

It's a Street, Pump Gas motor...
My compression #s won't tell you much (accept how it starts compaired to yours ) unless you have the same combo...NOT...
This head flows 17cfm more than a stocker, it has Carpenter cams that I degreed where I thought they should for how/what this motor was built for...the degreeing can make a Big diff. in cranking compression...
I WILL tell you the compression # when I get it them...AFTER I seat the rings a bit

I don't want people here to get mad at me but...my boss won't let me give too many details on things I do in this shop...
It makes me feel good helping people but I won't be able to get nearly as detailed as I would like...about how this motor is set-up...

KC,
I understand the privacy issue and am not looking for secrets, rather just a correlation of cranking psi and deck height (thus my Q's about spacer/gasket thickness).

We all appreciate your updates!!!

Well...after 75 miles on the dyno (not all at once) I have mapped the drivability range...I have to say this thing seems to run GOOOD...
Gave it a road test...I need to work on that dang-ed 2,500 rpm dead spot some more but other than that...this puppy is SMOOOTH from 2,750 up...3,000-up she purse like a kitten...

HEY! I don't care about the 2,500 rpm stumble! Honestly, I don't care! If it revs as quick as you say I won't feel it for the milli-second it's at 2,500 rpm.
I promise to only launch it above 3,000! I'll set the idle to 2,600. OK? I don't care about the stumble, ask anyone who knows me. 20,000 miles and I never asked anyone about the stumble. Ask my therapist. Sheesh.

1st pulls looking pretty Goood...

Mapped rich at WFO for breakin (mid 12s) with less than 200 miles it made 201.5HP 111+Lbs

Entropy...it had 210psi-CC...I moved the cams for 200psi...

Thanks KC'
I know you can't tell secrets...

So, as a general question, I had my Muzzy cams at 105/107, and it got 205-210psi BUT too much base spacer.

On this rebuild we will up CR a bit, but wanna intelligently set the cams

In what "direction" cam seetings would incr cranking CCpsi and what would lower it?

like 110/110???
like 105/103???

Sorry for dumb questions, but i'm getting an education

AND, I will post my settings results, because I am not competitive anyway
