I see it. Now we can't use straps in 60 inch. Now if you want to race you have to spend MORE money and not have a streetable type front susp. Im gonna try and talk to CD about this see what we can do....my busa with FULLY STRAPPED still clears the 2 inch rule EASY....

???
i am new to drag racing but, i just dont get it. it seems like everybody wants to make the rules to suit thier bike. when i was roadracing you would get a rulebook and build your bike accordingly(and cheat the rules if you chose). you would never see someone enter a superbike race on a supersport legal bike and get upset because he could not compete. for now i am just going to do summit/e.t and my local street legal nights. just a little advice" read the rules and build your bike to take advantage of them" don't try to change the rules after the fact because you came to a gun fight empty handed.

I agree! The only problem is that the rules aren't always published ahead of time in dragracing. The organizers usually want to leave the rules as broad as possible to get as many people as possible to participate. Unfortunately, that also leads to arguements when people are abidiing to a different set of rules.

Also What good is Tech Inspection is they are not checking the bikes?
I mean I had the whole ordeal with the chain guard and all but shouldnt that have been caught at tech Inspection? After I got told to find a chain guard or do not come back to the line I went down the Street ET lane and counted 5 bikes with no chain guard and 2 bikes with Slicks! WTF!

totally correct
this in not a rip on any indiduals at all it just seems to me that there is a total lack of leadership, planning and even professionalism(spellcheck). i was a member of w.s.m.c and they were much more organized. i know that they have been around for a long time. it probably was not like that in the early days. i went to a nmra meet and it just seemed like things were disorganized. i can't imagine showing up to willow springs with bike not knowing if there was a class for it or even being able to get an up to date rule book.there is no way you should pass tech inspection and then get told to find a chainguard or anything else.like i said i am not trying bad anyone or any organization i am just a new guy, looking at this and wondering if i want to do this or go back to roadracing....

No straps in 60" truly does suck. It indeed takes the fast street ridden bikes out of it, for the most part. I wouldn't mind the rule if they didn't change it midseason after everyone has built their bike complying to the existing rules. Slugs aren't expensive but they are a pain to install.
Just because a person passes tech initially doesn't mean they shouldn't be subjected to checks later in the event. People have to known to go straight to the pits after the initial tech and change things around.

totally agree
i completely agree with you on the but, because we all know that racers tend to try and sidestep the rules "if you cheatin' then you ain't trying hard enough" is something i hear alot in the pits. i just don't think that tech should be lax enough to pass a bike that did not have something as basic and obvious as a chainguard. maybe it was just an incident were a tech inspector missed it.the problem is that this combined with the sudden rule change, nmra's inability to make a decision about the class at all just does not make me want to show up. i will race the summit series for now.

And the saga continues.........
Please pass this info to other 60" racers...I chose names from our address book that have entered in 60" or have shown interest, but I don't have everyone's e-mail address.
Johnny Cheese has volunteered his services to tech and check the 60" class. His only stipulation was for everyone to agree. Also his word would be FINAL on any decisions or disqualifications.
Please respond via e-mail or phone 281.324.2724.

And the strap thing too....
Oh and this is the latest on the straps....
**********************************************
I called Jason Miller today about the straps. I don't have a picture to show you, but I will try to describe it to you. When you come to tech, and we need to have a special tech person for this, ground clearance is checked. Then the tech person takes the part of the strap that is remaining, pulls down, towards the ground, and approximately 1" below the buckle a knot like you would tie a tie) is put into it. Then the remaining part is wrapped around the section between the buckle and the bolt on the caliper, (like a telephone cord). Three tie wraps are attached to all this, one at the knot, one in the middle and one at the bottom.
Each pass this same person that teched you will check ground clearance and verify that all tie wraps are still in place. If they are you proceed, if not you are dq'd.
If anyone tampers with the strap past this point, after ground clearance is checked, they would be dq'd.
This would have to be done each round.
This would apply to SBS and 60". The other problem will be to monitor, the S/ET bikes that run straps or S/G...
I would like to have a neutral party to be this tech person. And yes we would need to pay someone, $100.00 or so.
Instead of asking for donations, we could raise the entry $10.00?
