chainguard solution for extended swingarms?

I picked up a 6" over arm from Muzzys, but to be race legal at most tracks I need a chain guard that covers the entire length of the chain.

What did you guys use for this? (vendor/cost/etc)

actually most of the rules state that the guard must go to the center of the sprocket. and Ive been using the stock chain guard all year without any problems.

Mike...we were "barely legal" when we had the axle at +4...
With the axle all the way to the back of the +6...it's no-where-near-legal with the stock chain guard...
I'll post pictures...later...of the chain guard we had made...
If there is some interest...maybe I can get some more made???

group purchase

Kev,

Count me in on a GP if the quality is decent. Perferrably aluminum that will spec for a 6" over arm.

yuhp

Yeah Mike definitely get that taken care of. It would suck to travel to an event and not be able to compete because of a chain guard.

all seriousness aside: settings for 6

1. compression and rebound damping?
2. how many inches down is the rear?
what are you running?

Even tho I have taken a claw hammer and a chain saw to my undertail, I still fear my fat ass will induce it to (again) make contact with the tire when launching. I am planning on running 2" lowered (up from 2.5") and full compression, 10 clicks rebound the next time to the track. Any advice?

I'll see how much the man will want to make some more...
I think we can make them nicer looking too.
This one (thank's for picture Dave) is higher in the rear than it needs to be.

BTW, you have any answers for my questions abouve abour r shock set up w/the 6" arm? I know my fat ass will dictate me doing my own testing & finetuning, but some pointers would be helpful.

OK...I talked to the guy that made the chain guard...
He says probably about $75 to make more...
I'm willing to work with board members on how they want them to look...
I've got one so I don't NEED another one but...I WANT him to make John another one anyway...this one IS too high in the rear...he made it on a SUNDAY for us (I wasn't there) so we wouldn't have any grief at the World Finals...
INPUT PLEASE

entropy...
The bike was too stiff (not for John but for me) when it was stock...since it's John's bike...I NEVER tried to "set it up for me".
I was happy when he got the swingarm because THAT made the rear softer for ME because I didn't stiffen the shock for the swingarm (or John's weight)...it worked out GOOD because the tire "touched" the undertail that I made on GOOD launches...that's ONE reason the swingarm help my times "more than it would have" if the shock would have been set right for me to begin with...

Long story short...moving the axle all the way back made it even shofter and the angle (up) of the tail...made it so the tire didn't "touch" any harder...you've all seen the results posted...9.03 is best to date...backed up with a 9.05 on a diff. day...these times were NOT with good air...STILL waiting for the winter air

Bike was draging bad last time John road it on the street though...I WILL have to stiffen the rear when he starts racing it in January...that will SUCK for me ;( but...I've been LUCKY to ride the bike as much as I have...

I don't remember where I have the dampening set...haven't touch it for at least a year!
I wanted to go softer on the comp. and harder on the rebound for the World finals and...never did...
I'll check to see what the settings are when I get a chance...

Give me some input on the chain guards folks...
I'm sure we can make them for 3-4-inch over too...

GP

Kev you know I'm down for one if he can level it out so it doesn't sit all goofy in the rear like that. I have the 6" Muzzys are waiting to be installed, so it would need to be a 'bolt on' for that product and go at least to the rear axle centerline (preferrably at least 1/4" past) to be legal.

Let me know what the damage is if you can get these made, otherwise I'll look locally and see what I can come up with.

We can definitely do the chain guards...
I've got more than usual going on right now (this is good) but...since I DO want a lower one for John...I'll play with the design "this year" (you can say that at this time of year )

The one above is about an inch past the axle...I think it will look better if it is at least this long, but lower...

What do you think will be your "largest rear sprocket"???

Would it be worth around $75 for a NICE aluminum chain gaurd?
INPUT PLEASE...I've got one...DON'T need one...just trying to help...

For ME

I won't use larger than +1 tooth on the rear sprocket. I have a +2 that I used one day at a private track rental; put about 30 passes on it and realized it wasn't for me. Right now I'm running stock rear and -1 front (which seems to work best for me).

Hey Kevin rember the Muzzy arm does not have the Inside brace for the chain guard!! so if that is there it will just be bouncing around! cool.

I want, I want, so far the largest sprocket on hand is a 50 tooth, 49 tooth on the 12 right now.

I'm running a 17/51 combo now and really like it for drags. Gotta be quick on the shift button, but it hauls ass!
