is anyone else running a fat fiber in place of skinny?
MadMike clued me in about ditching the skinny fiber and its 2 associated "springs" and replacing with a regular fiber. I did it and it seems to work fine, if anything having a better feel. The change in feel is definitely debateable, but its atleast as good as before.
I did it because my clutch was torched again and I didn't have a repacement skinny but had a bunch of regular fibers. Since it feels good, I am planning on staying with this set up.
anyone have a reason why we need those 2 "springs" AND THE SKINNY FIBer? (fukken capslok).

YEEEup...have had the wider plate in it for months...
I believe the 'spring' is for Street Bikes...it helps disengage (fully) the clutch so it doesn't CLUNK as bad when puting it in gear from neutral...might shift a little smoother too (if you don't KNOW how to shift)...IMO...

hey
Damn that's good to know! Thanks! I don't know how many times we've done the swap waiting for that stupid special fiber on backorder.
So you scrap the metal spacers and the skinny fiber and just drop in a regular fiber in it's place?

Yes I have been doing it for most of the year!! and what kawi told me that small spring is to help remove chatter when your loading up the clutch!. but with the extra oil from the Muzzy hub you dont need it anymore!

BA!
No diff. in stack height...
The plate isn't 'thicker'...it's...wider...
Smaller I.D. like the rest of the plates...adds a tad-bit more surface area...

i am STILL the "clutch antiChrist"!!!!
HAH!!!! and you guys might have thought i'd lose my touch for torching clutch plates just cause I am now running more torqe and 6" arm! HAH!!
Went to the track last night with new clutch pak, using the no-spring-fat-fiber set up discussed above. Pulled the clutch out this am and was getting more disappointed, plate by plate as I pulled em. Damn! shiny steels, one after another, until...
Hooray! my title of clutch destroyer is intact! The inner 2 steels were torched; as pretty a pattern of blues and blacks as I could ever wish for...
hmmmmmm.... wonder why only the inner 2 steels were toast? I rarely had them turn colors before, even when the rest of my steels were the color of my normal barbeque (I do blackened everything, intended or not)
hmmmmmm...

Check your inner hub, the one that comes in muzzy kit,
if it has indention where the plate cut into the hub
you will continue to burn plates. This prevent the plates
from moving smoothly, and MUST be replaced.
You didn't take the title KING CLUTCH KILLER, i gave it away when i replaced my inner hub.
Good luck
