Best springs for a muzzy lockup? Well, spring has arrived, and I'll be putting the pingle bars, drag slick and lockup clutch back on the silver 12 soon. I never really had a chance to tune the clutch last year, and when reviewing the videos, could hear the bike bog off the line, even launching at 9500 rpm. So obviously, the clutch wasn't slipping at all. I was running six stock springs. Anyone got a feel for what springs work best to give the clutch some slip?

With that lockup I'd use stock springs with no weight on arms and 16/51 gearing. From there I'd start with 9 lbs of air and add till the video showed about 0ne revolution on launch. Then if it was still bogging i'd go even higher on the launch rpm but i doubt it will bog with that gearing and your torque monster motor.Looks like no rain today, might get some passes.

also a trick that I was informed was to shave the length of the springs by 1mm to start and when you launch there should be some slip. Mad Mike

springs? I have a feeling no matter what you do (opinion of course) the stock springs are going to be to STIFF for any slippage. I dont know anything about your bike or engine combo but the stock springs will work great in a turbo bike or something with TONS of power. Speaking from MTC lockup experience.

I saw a guy in Hallsville that had a 01 silver with almost the same setup as you. Drag slick, bars, Muzzy lockup. He said he was running stock springs and three?? aluminum weights if I am not mistaken. You can ask ARH since it is his "father in law" type. Older guy was running GOOD too!!

I,m not the "father in law" of ARH, but I do know him. I have found that three steel screws with the steel bolts supplied by Muzzy work well. The last time I was out, my best 60' time was 1.51. Also, no bars but 8" extensions.

You know, I'm running a 17/49 right now. A 16t on the front would be pretty easy to do, and I already have a 50t rear sitting around. Maybe will put that on before the next time out! Thanks for all the suggestions!

I have run my 12 with 225hp with nos, bar, lowered, pciir, 7" slick progressive 16/44 gearing, let clutch go 10,000 rpm bogged bad, you could literally count 1-1.5 seconds till it pickup then banshee 10.4. Definatelly go lighter on the springs. I now have a MRE multistage.

I'm running my stock engined 12 with a slick and wheelie bars & 16/48 gearing. I had a bad bogging problem for the longest time until I figured out the right combination of tire pressure and wheelie bar height. I never bog anymore. I don't have a lockup, and it's looking like I don't need one. I launch at 9500 (10K indicated.)

I am also running a stock motor, slick and bar with a 16/52 rear set up and I launch @9000 and go thru the lights in 6th gear it works well.
Best time to date 9.24 @ 146 with 8lbs of air in the tire.
Also I pin the bar down on the 2nd and 3rd gear shiftes.

Swft,so after looking at Joes setup, you might hit the limiter in 6th if you run16/51 with your motor.Try just putting the 16 on the front
