200 mm tire less contact patch than 190 on 6" rim?

A tire guy told me the 200 mm wide tire would have less contact patch than a standard 190 mm wide tire on the same 6" rim. True?? His explanation sounds logical. He says the wider tire would be squeezed on the rim pulling the tread further up the sides of the tire reducing the contact patch. That would not be an effective means of gaining better traction for drag racing. Lew

You left out the profile of each of the tires you are comparing.

OEM size 190/50/zr17 compared to 200/50/zr17 on the same OEM 6" wide rim. Lew

The 190/50 of the same make/model should give you a little more contact patch than the 200/50.

If your looking for a good tire also... cheaper tires, but I have had great luck out of the shinko hook ups. If you ride on the street to with it they chew up a little faster, but seem to be sticky

I ride street a lot more than strip, so I chose Shinko's Stealth ultra soft tire. Lew
