new turbo build

slowly working away at the new setup, not getting much time lately with work, but heres a start. nothing is finalized yet for design, just getting some ideas
using a Comp CT-4 6265. anti surge with billet wheel, and a .82 divided t3 hot side

Looking good.

Scott before you go and weld up the Dump pipe to the Tiwinder I got a few numbers for you.

Area = Pr^

A 1 sq in of perfectly round pipe will flow ..146 cfm ...@ 28" of water

3" Di... dump pipe = r = 1.5".. r^ = 2.25" x 3.14 = ....7.06 sq in Area

7.06" x 146 = ...1031 cfm...@ 28 in of water

2.375" Di... Tiwinder = r = 1.1875"...r^ = 1.410" x 3.14 =.... 4.43 sq in Area

4.43 " x 146 =... 647 cfm... @ 28 in of water

3" = .................1031 cfm
2.375" = ...........647 cfm

That is a 37% Less flow= restriction = backpressure= less HP

You want to make the Most HP with the lest amount of Pressure possible , the harder you make the compressor work , the Hotter the compressor makes the Air going into engine???

Draw or trace the Pipe Diameiers on a piece of paper and compare, you will see a big differance.

It is all Physics, what ever you Flows into a engine has to Flow out.

Keep it up

kawa74, I have a few numbers for you. the turbo accepts a 3 in vband flange/clamp, but the ID is actually smaller. its about 2 5/8 which is supposed to be matched to the turbine wheel. I was actually thinking about getting rid of the TiWinder meg and running a full system with the HMF can RCC carries. it has a 2.5in ID and I bought 2.5in tubing. I plan on tapering the tubing from the 2 5/8 to the 2.5 in tubing at the turbo so no big step, and far less size change than the t61 setup from last yr. I may also do a setup with straight dumps to swap in for testing, but i like stealthy
your thoughts?

Air flow doesn't like exspansions or contractions, one size is best ., Longer the pipe the Quieter.

3" flows = 1031 cfm
........................................1 cfm = .43 HP......-154cfm x .43 =----- 70 HP less
2 3/4 flows = 867 cfm
.........................................1 cfm = .43 HP.....-.77cfm x .43 = -------33 HP less
2 5/8 flows = 790 cfm
........................................1 cfm = .43 HP........-73cfm x .43 = -------31 HP less
2 1/2 flows = 717 cfm

Im going to do it the same way i had planned....

opps... :P

smaller charge piping this time, thx to Seb for the tip. easier to route, and really not a measurable difference in hp at this level

man o' man, Timewarp has exactly the same style & content as that Gunner guy who went silent way back when. Gunner was a pure troll, sort of like weighmeister but much more of a poser.

During the last flurry of timewarp running down everybody's efforts, i commented that the style = ole Gunner's.
Gunner then contacted me and vehemently denied being Timewarp, and i more or less bought it.
But now again I am reminded of Gunner.

Too bad Shane661 got irked with me (i was off base...) and doesn't contact me these days. I think Shane had some info from other forums which links Timewarp to Gunner.

Oh well, no one really gives a shit.

I just hate to see a no-credential poser like Timewarp/Gunner? run down a true enthusiast like Scott with his most EXCELLENT project.
