Who knows calculations? Calculate this.....

Who can figure out a way to form a calculation that would determine how many revolutions per minute a zx12 18 tooth sprocket would be spinning at any given MPH?

At any given MPH, the rpm of the rear sprocket = rpm of the rear wheel.

OK, see if you boys can check my work.

Definitions:

D = diameter of rear tire (inches)
S = linear speed of motorcycle (MPH)
PI = 3.14159
C = Circumference of rear tire (inches)

Basically, you just have to convert the linear speed of the motorcycle into the RPM's of the rear wheel.

Long story short:

RPM of rear tire/sprocket = 1056*S*D*PI

Gotta go home and work on another bike so...I doubt I'll do it tonight...

I'll bet someone else will tell ya before I get to it!?!?!?

What's up Red???
Why you gotsta know output shaft speed???

Oops, he meant output shaft speed....OK, then I'll have to change my earlier formula to:

Output shaft speed: 1056*S*D*PI*G

G = Gear Ratio. (front/rear)

Must be a data download thing???
Someone have a puter for they're bike now?!?!?!

Oh ya...red...I'm sure you already know that the tire size will make a diff. in the calc...
What tire are you talking about?

OK...HERE ya go...

MPH to Countershaft RPM

1 MPH = 1056 Inches per Minute

MPH x 1056 divided by the Tire Circumference in Inches = Wheel Rotations per Minute.
Wheel Rotations multiplied by Final Drive Ratio (sprokets) = Output Shaft RPMs.

Example:
100mph x 1056 = 105600
105600 / 79" (MC2 tire) = 1336.71
1336.71 x 3.000 (51/17 sprokets) = 4010rpm output shaft

MC2 circ. measures about 79" on the floor for me but..."Real World/Track MPH to ENGINE RPM" as we have seen them
on John's bike seem to show the tire as being less than 78"...
Another words...I have run 123+mph in the 1/8 mile hitting the limiter right at the last stripe with 17/51 gearing...
THIS Output Shaft Speed would be...123mph = 5047rpm
(x 1.440 3rd gear ratio x 1.596 primary ratio = 11,599rpm)

NOW!!!
Tell us what's up...or ELSE!?!?!?

We are a procharger dealer and they have created a 7 inch unit which would be very simple to fab a pulley system to run off the countershaft sprocket. They are interested in sending us free units to try and make the setup. The linear boost curve would, in essense, be its own boost controller We were just braingstorming and wondering what kind of pulleys we would have to fab up to get the max boost by the top of the 1/4 mile, and not overspin the blower....
