cracked turbo piston
I wasnt too impressed when I pulled this out tonight





and compare to the Muzzy spec MTC

Looks like those valve pockets were an afterthought... What brand were those pistons?

83mm (stock bore) JE shelf turbo piston. these had limited dyno pulls, up to 27 psi, which cracked the stock block, and then a handful of passes at the drag strip at 10-12 psi one wknd. some limited running on the stand to compare the old turbo system to the new one. I didnt know there was a problem until i saw them last night

I have a very similar failure with my custom made 84mm JE nitrous pistons, I just took the top end apart last week and found warping around the intake valve relieve on piston1. Pistons 3 and 4 have complete failure. I'll go take some pics.

I had Wossner make a custom set of pistons for me after the JE stroker pistons developed cracks .JE could not tell me what caused them to crack , so I went with a different brand/design.
We will see what they look like after a season or two of abuse :-)

not exactly sure. it was the first bike to ever be put on the dyno at this shop. its a Mustang dyno which "reads low" like a factory pro and super flow. about 15% lower than a dynojet like Brock or Muzzy use.
we dont think the calibration was quite right. rough guess it was reading double as we had it spinning 1 drum, but really we dont know
heres gate pressure (5.3) and 25.3psi

That makes me feel better. I am using those same pistons in my 1498 as high compression and got scared. My motor will be much less high strung than 25 psi of boost though. Are you using stock conn rods?
