help me defeat a gsxr1 please!!!

Hello all, I need some help beating a guy with a gsxr1. I live mile high my bike has hindle pipe and 1 tooth up in rear and 1 tooth down in front. I got dog bones dropped 2 inchs, and a strap. addtionally it has muz ign adv plus 4 degrees. I ran a 10.57 with a 1.81 60ftr@ 138. I weigh 220 in full leathers. My opponent has an 02 gsxr1000 with one tooth in the front weighs 140lbs. At the race track he ran a 1.82 60ft and a 10.30 @138 mph. I was wondering if i might need to go 1 more tooth up in the rear. The last gear I shift into (4th) is about 100 ft before the traps. Before I went 1 tooth up in the rear, I use to finish in 3rd at the end of the qtr and would bounce off the rev limiter just past the qtr mile. My bike was stock and was running 10.8 @134 mph with 17 front before the above mods. The reason I went up 1 tooth in the rear was I thought the new found power might make me shift into 4th right at the end of the qtr. I was also thinking about getting the mt dot tire. So do i try 1 more tooth in the back or switch back to the stock rear gear? That stick boys bike weighs 110 lb's less and he's 80lb's or 190 total lb's lighter!!!! help!!!!!!!!!

I would try working on your 60' times down to a 1.6 to 1.5's. You'll beat him then! Gearing, I would try the stock rear sprocket and go down one in the front. Anyone care to comment?

I think your gearing is close and maybe even go down to a 16 front to help your 60 foots.Your combo will have to be perfect to beat 190lbs!Practice.Maybe go the 16 front and put stock rear back on that might get you at the top of 4th.

you can go 1-2 teeth up more in the rear and hit limiter at the backstripe. that would be idea..also who told you to put your advancer at +4? did it dyno that way ? have you been to the dyno? email me your map, and let me do some adjustments to it and see if it will help. Also, how about Fuels? Sunoco has a new race fuel that competes with Nutec, called MO2X, I am going to do some dyno testing very soon with it and I will let everyone know...

P.S. I picked up just over a .10th, by changing my map. (ET).

Do you know which Hindle pipe you have??

I think I'd agree with the extra +1 in the back to get your fatass moving. Uhhhh, I mean, uhh, to help with the initial acceleration! (hey, I weigh 140)

If that kid is really 140lbs I'd have thought he'd have a better time/MPH than you gave us. You probably already know that you *HAVE* to have a good 2-3 bikes(probably more) on him at the 1/8th to beat him because of that weight difference. My buddy has a GSXR1k too and I can beat him on the launch and the 330', but after that it is very even!

If you did go up an extra tooth in the back, I'd start to worry about the wheelie factor.

LIKE COWBOY and KZZ1 said, you *Could* go with a 16T up front and either stock or +1 in the back and you'd GET SOME WHEELBASE BACK! That would help you get deeper into the gas SOONER. That's the key to going fast.

Other than that, you need to practice launching with your big head up near the windscreen and getting that chest and sternum as far forward and low as possible! 1.81 isn't too hateful, but you will need better to beat him easily.

You *could* take the stock air filters out, or just remove the foam.
Being in the "Mile High" altitude, this may actually help more than it would for lower altitude guys.

I agree with MADMIKE, you should send him your map. He's a big boy too and can ensure your map is good to go. Timing too.

When you say you're strapped, I hope the bottem of your RamAir is LESS than an inch from the fender. Personally, Mine is about 1/8th of an inch.

You could do the Nutec trick, but it's gawd-awful smelly and the other guy will notice it. The gas is OXYGENATED though, and at that altitude, that HAS to be a good thing. I think you should look up the SUNOCO product, I hear it's also oxygenated, and costs less than NUTEC. If it isn't too smelly, then it will help you in a big way.

I don't think you need a Mickey or Schinko tire either.........not that it sounds like anyway.

I wonder if it helps to short shift a bike at a higher altitude?? Say, 10,500 or 11,00 instead of redline.. ANYONE?

10.57 at 138 with a slow 60 ft just doesn't add up unless they are doing some correction at the track for ya. But my 2 cents worth would be to gear it with a 17/50 combo to help pull you out of the hole and give you near the top of 4th gear at the big end. This is the best combo i've run for quick 60ft. and consistant times. It will also help your clutch to live a lot longer. I weigh about 210 dressed so we're pretty close. Good luck and take the zuki dude to McDonalds every day for lunch this winter to help some more.

remove that igntion advancer. I weigh around 205. Gearing, 16/what ever you are running now. launchs, stock arm, try lauching the bike at 3k and let the clutch go. Don't slip the clutch. "Me, launching at 3k, 16/46 gearing I run 10:00's all night at memphis Motorsport". If the 3k have you pulling the wheel up, try 2500 rpm, but remember this, as soon as you leave the line, twist the throttle wide open as soon as possible. Shifting, don't use the clutch after you leave the starting line. Just blip the throttle and shift it into gear. This will shave off some time as well.

17/50 is roughly equivalent to 16/47 but the latter will give a longer wheelbase.

Thanks for the advise fellas. I did not mean to offend anyone with my stick boy comment. It's mostly out of frustration. The guys I usually ride with are huge 265- 315 range as the norm. So Im the stick boy compared to my buds. My bike does not have a pc installed yet. Plus 4 degrees gave me a whopping 1 hp gain on the dyno. I put kn filters on my bike and lost three hp so I left the stock ones in place for now. Stock 153.4 hp. Pipe-step hindle, ign adv 17-47 gearing are my mods. Currently 170 hp sae with no pc. I have a pc3 but i am waiting for some stacks before i put it back on the dyno. Mad Mike thanks for offering to look at my pc map. As soon as I get it customed mapped I'll send you and email. I'll try the kn's again with cusatom map.(probably 2-3 weeks. BA I can only wish I was that light again. The last time I was that light was in the late eighties when I owned a V-Max. I use to irritate and beat about half the gsxr11 guys at the dragstrip!! So to sum this up you guys are saying more practice and experiment with my gearing. Yay or nay on the mickey tire? How fast can I go in third gear with a 17 tooth front and stock rear?

One more thing my goal is to run a nine sec qtr mile here in Albuquerque NM, 5300ft alt known for having the worst air in the country. Bandemiere colorado has better air most of the time and there even a higher altitude!!
Wish list:
1. MT tire
2. Three inch extention
3. Customed mapped
4. The right gearing
5. Stacks
6. And a crap load of useful information from you guys to help make it happen. thanks!!

Probably don't need the tire. You're not spinning off the line or down the track are you??

Have you modded the clutch in any way? New springs, clutch hub or billet clutch. Might help you manage the launch better.

Extensions will help your 60 ft for sure. MPH won't go up most likely, but your times should go down.

Map is the most important thing I see you need. I picked up 4/10ths with a simple gear change and a custom map.

Only thing I'll add for now is...Are you strapping the front end down???
The strap makes a big diff. on your launch/60Ft...
Very few people "don't slip the clutch"...try it both ways and see what works best for YOU...
I personaly slip the clutch a LOT...AND get the throttle WFO...IN FIRST GEAR...as soon as possible...

Yes, I have the bike strapped. I have only 10 passes total on my zx12 so far. My best 60ft is a 1.75 with 22lb of air pressure in the rear tire. I started with 35 and found the track was slippery, and kept lowering the tire pressure until it improved. Additionally, lowering my tire pressure down to 15 lb's works good at this track but it sacrifices mph. What do you guys think stacks, kn filter, and custom map would add to my 170 hp?

If you are really interested start cutting weight on the bike wherever possible. Drop one of the front rotors and calipers. Run a single brake line for the front (one from the rear of a 12 will fit). This will also eliminate the "block" right above the front fender that sometimes rubs.

Lower the front by sliding the forks up in the triple clamps. Remove the mirrors etc. when you race. Put about 45-50lbs in the front tire for less rolling resistance. Put as much air as possible in the rear....... until it spins, then take just a bit out. Measure it for a good base line on for you at your home track. All tracks are different, so take notes on temperature, humidity, and what worked for you on any given day.

Puposefully try "one" thing different every run and compare your incremental times to see what action gives you better mph or time.

Tuck in behind the shield as much as possible. Preload the shifter so your shifts get faster. Blip the throttle and hit the next gear fast.

Practice, Practice, Practice......that will help more than anything!!

Thanks Kev! I like it too! It felt like it was all of 2nd gear, and I had to pick up some bigger balls to try to not let out of the gas!

Fun stuff.
