My oil filter spun loose for the last time!

This time while I was at the track. It waited until I was making a nitrous assisted pass before it started leaking oil. No problems resulted though. A few friends helped out and leaned the bike way over so I could retighten the filter and drive home. I generally get the filter as tight as I can by hand. I'm assuming it's not quite tight enough for my missing balance shafted motor.

I have not experienced this with my 12 and the balancer is gone as well. We have had the issue a few times on a ZX6R race bike. I would suggest you throw a hose clamp around the filter snuig the clamp up and then safety wire the clamp to a fix position. This should prevent the potential of the filter backing off. We have to do this on the Road Race bikes all the time and it does work well.

I always hand tighten mine too....were you sure to coat the gasket in oil first?

Safetywire or even a ziptie to attach a clamp to the filter would work easy enough.

I tighten mine with a wrench and have a clamp with safety wire securing it.You only have to safety wire it once then just loosen the hose clamp put the new filter on and spin it around till the safety wire is tight and tighten the hose clamp. It is not good for your filter to back off over 180 mph.Don't ask me how I know.Fuck a ziptie.Heat and zip ties don't mix well.

Another one of them damn race bikes! You can always spot em with the safety wire holes. Next thing you'll be telling us Bergie that it's only ridden on Sunday and occasionally on Saturday!

A Busa in the future is what a lil bird told me!!

Probably just more comfortable for him. Heard him say quite a few times that the 12 hurts his neck, even with the risers and bars. As long as you're happy!
