Gainsville PHOTOS

Okay this year I want to see some serious photos... not one or two! Like 50! If you're going to be there! SHARE! Shit I'm stuck here in the freezing RAIN AND SNOW and everything is closed! Tracks! Schools! Businesses! HELP ME!!

I read over on psychobike.com that Ryan busted off a 7.70 pass on the Turbo bike right off the trailer in test session! Chip Hunter posted that he... "Went 9.82 on the trusty 2002 & 10.29 @ 133 on my new 2003 that is only geared & lowered. Can't wait to start tweeking with a pipe & map."

I only have a crappy 1.2mb camera, but I'll take what I can Bergie. Prolly of folks playing in puddles, racing pit bikes, etc ....

To go .02 slower than you've ever been on a bike, first pass of the season, on not even last year's bike, but LAST LAST year's bike... that's some amazing chit

Chip Hunter riding a stock-piped 600 that fast is mind boggling. There are guys with big money in their bikes that can't go that fast.

I just replaced head gasket #4 this month. I pulled the o-rrings out, as there was a big gap in one of them. No nitrous for me this weekend, tho I'm more consistent on the motor anyway. But less than 160 just feels so SLOW now. Takes FOREVER to get down there :/

Yea probably 640x480 is all the resolution you want for web posts anyway due to large filesize. If you see Gadson's blue 12R with the 3" Muzzys arm that has been clipped and modified for a bottle mount in front of the tire, please snap some close ups, otherwise I will see it at Rockingham hopefully.

I'm sorry guys, I blew ANOTHER f*cking head gasket on my first pass (motor-only, something is way wrong), and ended up entering Scotty Jones' ZX12 in Pro ET. My first pass ever on the bike I ran a soft-launching, rev-limiter hitting 9.40 @ 154 - that thing is badass. Anyway, no pics. I was gonna give Harry the camera and have him go at it, but the whole thing got called this morning. The plan is to run the race the Thurs prior to the World Finals this November. That actually works out OK for me, as I'll figure out my chit by then and be able to race I hope.

Good meeting oldkawboy, seeing everybody, sorry we missed you MadMike. I talked with Doug Meyer, and it looks like they won't have the Prostocker ready for the Gatornationals, and are shooting for Houston. The new Muzzy Prostock-painted trailer is beautiful, the whole setup was spotless, very professional. The Promod was declared 'done' and will be go to the track very soon. Of course Doug also had good advice regarding my gasket issue.

So now I'm thinking of maybe skipping the Gatornats and trekking up to the Rock, if I can get my chit straight. I know you'll be there Bergie, anyone else going?

I really don't know what the problem is. I ran the bike on a 80hp shot for 50+ runs until the HG blew, since I had Mike oring the block, it won't hold, even on the motor. I've been talking to Mike Keyte after every failure, and following his suggestions, but I'm running out of time -the first SEMDRA race is in 3 weeks. Mike recommends I use a OEM spring-steel head gasket, while everyone else, Doug included, uses copper. I'm gonna try copper, what do I have to lose.

First I'll give the block to Roland Stuart here in town and check again that it and the head are flat, and get new wire. I sure am sick of swapping out head gaskets.

Dave - I'm sure if you were there you would've been on Scotty's bullet instead of me, you skinny ass throttle jockey I am psyched to ride Daymon's mountain 12...

Just a suggestion, if you are running aftermarket studs, make sure the nuts are not bottoming out on the stud.Sounds like common sense but I have seen people rack there brains for weeks with this problem.

That's a good thought mrfast, I'll make sure. I can kinda feel them stretching, so prolly not, but I never really looked, it could be.

You can ride my bike anytime Dave - long as I can ride yours Whenever Kevin and I used to swap we'd both go a half sec slower - the torque curves are much different, and the ZRX clutch is hydraulic, kinda hard to get used to. I tend to shift late on the 12, as the power never drops off... the ZRX peaks around 10700. Someone needs to make a simple ignition box with adjustable rev limit for the 12, I bet they'd sell a bunch of them.

did you receiver groove the head when you oringed the cyl? Use copper gasket and carpet adhesive no leaks works on 2500 hp turbo cars Be sure and receiver groove the head......some people dont do it and wonder why they leak and blow...

Don't ever use old head bolts...

Buy a new set, to fix the problem.

There is no receiver groove, as per Mike Keyte's recs, but I'm thinking about it. The Muzzy ZRX has one, as does Steve Rice's turbo ZX11. I'm gonna make some calls tomorrow.

The APE studs & nuts are new Redbull, but yeah I've heard that too. Torqued to 45lbs, moly'd on all surfaces.

I should be able to swap gaskets between rounds when this is all said and done... :/

Dean...I dunno about continuing to beef up the head gasket man....Id really want that as the weakest point in my engine (as its supposed to be)...if you make it stronger than everything else....more expensive stuff is going to start breaking :/

I understand what you're saying, but I think there is something significantly wrong with the way the head is seating, or not seating as it were. For it to blow after 1 motor-only pass, 9.54 @ 144, something has got to be really screwed up. I just haven't found it yet. first I'll guarantee that the surfaces are flat, if so I'll try new wire and a copper HG, if that blows, I'll cut a receiver groove.

Hey Dean I do agree with Red Bull with, New Studs & bolts which you say are new, but hopefully the cooper gasket will hold up for you with out blowing anything else up.....

CUT A RECEIVER GROOVE AND YOUR PROBLEMS WILL DISSAPPEAR! Ive seen it more than once

Karl, Im in the same boat you are as far as the box, I spoke with the tech at schnitz racing and he is gonna release one that will modify the crank trigger signal in order for the 12 to use a pro series ignition box which will allow mapping up to 16,000 rpm....I have to have it for the ignition amplification on my DFI

Hey dean, where do you think the wire goes when you smash the headgasket on there? It doesnt just go flat....the oring groove is cut WITH a receiver groove becuase when you torque the head gasket the oring pushes the copper up into the receiver groove creating an UNBREAKABLE seal....thats what its meant for....but I still hear of people doing what you are doing all the time....

Nick, I did what was recommended to me by the guy who built the block, who's been running them for 15 years. He said I didn't need it, so I didn't do it. I can't think of a reason why Mike would intentionally steer me wrong. I am inclined to think there is something else significantly off that's leading to these repeated failures, so until I'm sure that the block and head are flat, I'm gonna hold off doing anything else. I will figure it out, and I appreciate your suggestions, but I have to go 1 step at a time, and look for basic problems before trying to solve the symptoms. I may indeed end up with a receiver groove, but if the head is warped, or the sleeves have dropped, then a receiver groove isn't going to help me.

You are correct.....just do me a favor, as him what happens to the copper oring when you torque down your cylinder head? I want to know what he says
