Oil pressure increase info
I read somewhere else where someone had added a washer to the relief valve in order to increase the oil pressure. Who has done this and can you tell me the exact size of washer and exactly where it is that I put it.
Thanks all.

The washer won't raise the pressure everywhere (rpm) it only raises the MAX pressure...
Don't know what size the washer is...I don't do that mod...

The washer increases the static oil pressure release point. When you add the washer, (from Auto Zone) you will also increase the pressure required to open the oil pressure relief valve. This will raise the running oil pressure. This is helpful if you are building a motor that makes horsepower, especially if you decide to go with a different bearing size. Detailed mechanics address the oil pressure!! Do this........the mod was shared to me by Bear!!! It works.

Has anyone actually MEASURED the oil pressure throughout the rpm range with and without the washer?????
That would sure be interesting info, eh guys?
I think the manual say stock is 23psi @ 4000 rpm, but I couldn't find any other oil pressure info in the manual

I'm pretty darned sure (VERY TIRED from work week) that the valve is ONLY to relieve pressure if it climbs too high (90psi I think) so...
HOW THE HELL CAN IT RAISE THE "RUNNING PRESSURE"?!?!?!
You even called it the "pressure RELIEF valve"...
Sorry for the yelling but...I don't like how you "talk down" to people like everyone sould know everything (like you think you do)...

kc your question is the same as mine. I can see the washer changing the pressure relief but not sure how it rasies the actual running pressure. Perhaps ra12r can enlighten us dummies. Or at least this dummy.

I installed a .040 thick washer in mine. Didn't check the oil pressure before I tore the motor apart. It had roughly 120psi at peak which took around 7k rpm or so to get there. Way more than enough, I'd guess. It's only gonna limit the pressure on mine to 120psi hot. It dang sure any gonna give it any more volume at less than full pressure.

thx, Ken that's the number i was looking for, 120psi.
I haven't seen any 120 psi max gauges, but maybe a 100 psi would do it???
