Nikasil honing

I have a 85,4 mm 1270 cylinder/piston kit for my zx12 with one damaged piston. I wonder if the cylinder can be honed to fit a set of Wiseco 85,5 pistons? According to this the nikasil coating is 0,6 to 0,7 mm thick: http://www.enginebuildermag.com/Article/2300/the_smooth_science_of_cylinder_honing.aspx

Or perhaps someone has a good 85,4 mm piston they want to sell:-)

I think you'd be better off with a new piston of the original bore. Who manufactured the piston? I have purchased single Wiseco pistons, and I know JE will sell singles. Better yet, but a set, and you'll have spares for next time

85,4 is a special size made by JE for Muzzy. I guess the best thing to do is to buy me a new set of pistons from Muzzy but it is just so expensive with shipping to Denmark and import tax and I can get a set of Wiseco 85,5 mm pistons here in Europe for much less.

Sorry, I forgot about the unusual bore size of the Muzzy piston, I guess JE won't sell one directly to you?

Can a single 85.5 be machined to 85.4?

I can only buy the 85,4 piston from Muzzy. I don“t think machining a 85,5 piston to 85,4 is a good idea. I will ask the local machine shop about machining the cylinder to fit the 85,5 pistons.

Did you check and see if you can buy one replacement piston from Muzzy? They used to carry single replacements.
The reason the 85.4 piston size was chosen was because of the thinner, lighter rings available in that bore size.

I can get a single piston from Muzzy but with shipping and import tax it adds up to about 450$ so that is why I was thinking of buying a new set of Wiseco pistons for just a little more money. I will ask Millenium if honing the cylinders 0,1 mm bigger without replating is possible.
