MadMike: the battery issue for big motors
Nope,
I haven't stopped thinking about putting more battery on my bike. A fully charged FBG will crank it right up, but it takes a chunk o' charge off the battery. Multiple starts in a short period of time require charging the battery. Not the best scenario, eh?
I'm thinking about pulling the FBG and mounting a honking big Odyssey (625 or 680) in front of the rear tire, low in the swingarm. If Interstate has an equivalent, 15#-ish battery, I'll go that way.
The problem with the FBG is that it gives 500+ CCA's for only 5 sec, then it acts just like the 220CCA battery it really is.
Whatta ya think? Am I out to lunch (again?)

No your exactly right, you know if you quit Hot lapping that damn beast you would not be starting it so damn much!!! LOL.... you can go with the larger weight battery and mount it on your shock but I'm not sure if that is what you want to do, and it is going to look ugly as shit! let me lookinto it a little more this week and see what I can come up with for you, maybe even a smaller Parallel battery set-up. but I will look into a couple of diffrent options for you at the track, maybe even a simple plug adaptor that we can hook up into a larger optima or something like that to charge that baby between rounds? let me brain on this one for a couple of days....

I have an inverter so I can charge it between rounds and that works, but I'm leaning towards mounting a big one down low between the swingarm(s). If I can find a reasonable gattery box, it shouldn't look too bad...
Does Interstate sell a 500-600CCA gelcell??

How much weight savings does the FBG get you? Prolly fit in my bike... my motor has no starting issues. Let me know if you ever want to sell it Karl. sabat@ufl.edu

Dean,
I don't think you save any weight, just more CCA's. If you don't have starting problems then I wouldn't bother.

Sometimes you have no choice but to constantly hotlap; in the heat of the summer; in the staging lanes and during round robin when you're winning brackets. Hate to lose a race because your battery won't start the bike!

Well looking at the sealed batteries that we have you might have to do some changing but our 18 AH battery which is longer but it has 270 CCA. and I believe that it will fit in our tray with a little bit of work, I will get some measurments and check it out. but I believe with a little bit of Mad Mike Engineering I can get it to work. I will let you guys know.
