Honestly, I have no aspirations at all to go anywhere near that fast. It's easy to lose perspective of just how fast even 200 mph is, anymore.
Bill is an exceptional racer, and he has a great team of talent surrounding him as well.
I think this is the part where I just spectate, while holding a pink purse.
What an awesome video!!! I can't believe that you had to use the dirt road as part of your shut down area. That is where I draw the line, like Shane said I will spectate as well. ____________

I agree with everything you said Shane.
I remember when me and the boys started going to Maxton almost 10 years ago there was only a small handful of purpose built race bikes running then, Guthrie had most of them.
Most of us ran our everyday streetbikes, something the boys and me still do.
Charlie stayed after me about making a pass on his turbo bike and I never did 'cause he was chasing the track record at that time belonging to the Bud bike and I didn't want to waste any of his bikes time with me just poking along on it as I had no real burning desire (let alone skill) to run the bike to it's ability. I did ride it once beside DaveO on his n/a 'Busa down the track after the May '08 meet, I wanted to hit them from a roll on and Dave only smiled. :-)
With all that being said I am in total awe of Bill and a slew of other really fast riders out there, I'll always enjoy & respect their accomplishments.
I simply can't imagine what Bill's bike pulls like but that video put things in perspective on how quick the mile gets eaten up!
And we also can say:
"hey Larry how about missing an episode of NCIS and show up in person!!!!!"

That is insane how fast that thing accelerates after 150, just insane. Although I do want join the 200mph club, I am with the others in that I will just watch from the sidelines on a run like that. Awesome!

Finally. I knew there had to be video of Bill Warner's record setting 278 mph run. Notice the markers on the right had side of the track (viewed on the left side as we see it) go by. Those markers are 1/4 mile apart!! Also notice how much the bike squirms both on acceleration and under the very heavy braking. He doesn't even try to make the turn off but elects to just run it straight clear off of the end of the track into the gravel.

Ozon- He doesn't "elect". He's stopping as hard as he can. Trust me that anything north of 225 at Texas is a handful to get stopped on the pavement.

So when trying to stop at LSR is it pump the brakes alot or steady pressure????

It is steady increasing pressure, I dont go anywhere near that fast so at Mojave or Loring I dont even have to use the brakes. At Texas that all changes. I roll out of the throttle and then get on the brakes steady but aggressive, I would imagine Bill is very aggressive. Shut down is probably the most dangerous part of standing mile racing. This is just my opinion and I am about as far from being a seasoned racer as you can get. I still dont think I would want to sit on the sidelines with a pink purse. I dont know if I will ever find out what is too fast but I know I havent come close to it yet. I know at 185mph I dont even know fast. I am positive Bill knows fast on an intimate level. I cant stop watching that video. It makes me smile and wish March would hurry up.

Depends on the distance. At Texas you don't waste any time and just squeeze as hard as you can without locking the wheel, -no time for "pumping". I think most of us are sitting up by 160 or so, and you are downshifting of course. There is a dip and some pretty good bumps at Texas and you have to relax a bit over those (you can see them on the tape). The most important thing is not to waste any time getting on the brakes. Bill was going better than 400ft per second. (1.3 "football fields" a second) and you only have 2200 ft before you run out of pavement. The slower you are going the more "room" you have, so those first few seconds are critical to the overall stopping distance. On The Salt there's so much room to stop that you just roll off and ease up into the air for aero braking and make a big turn off. Some times you don't need any brakes at all. I don't know how Maxton is nowdays..... But somebody will chime in. Loring and Mojave have plenty of room to slow down.
