Poll Question:
ZX clutch problems?

Hi Guys,

I have a 05 ZX-12 (stock motor) with a 8 over arm, 2 down 4 up gearing. Im doing mid 1.5 60 foots leaving at 6grand and going wide open slipping the clutch. But I have broken frictions multiple times and even shattered a stock outer basket so I replaced it with a Muzzy. Any clue why I'm braking frictions? anyone try to put in a 14 basket in a 12? What is average material burnt away per pass? I'm going through .020 on my stack height ever 6-8 passes. Is this average?

Thank you in advance,

Joey

Hi NOX,

2.285 stack height, thickest steels (from kawi) throughout and heavy Barnett Springs. And when i last broke the frictions i couldn't even tell doing 1.56 60fts.

Thanks again Joey

Sounds like your slipping the clutch WAY TOO much to start with.

too much slip im guessing

you might need to adjust your suspension or driving style to require less slip

what does the hub look like?

for me when i hammer mid 1.5 60fts i brake friction plates from time to time.
and i am full throttle clutch lever out by the tree. i my self only started braking frictions
when i started hammering it and getting mid 1.5s 60ft.
i am told the ones with a properly setup lock up do not brake frictions.
i go through my clutch every couple of weekends.
