motels near your tracks
Any stories about good cheep places to stay or horror pits? What made me think was going down to MIR for the MiRock series. The last few times I stayed at name brand hotel chains. I remember seeing a whole slew of smaller motels along Crain highway more closer to the track. So I stopped at the first one, Thunderbird motel, and sure enough they had vacancies. Well I go to sign in and there is a sign that says no credit/debit cards, cash only. Ding,Ding, ding, you know how hair rises on the back of your neck when things aren't right? Well alright, humor me. How much for the room? $40 cash. Thpt,Thpt, 2 bills go down. Now as I start filling out the paper work, I notice a sign that says no refunds after 10 minutes. What the???? I immediately think this is a sleaze joint where I'll see hookers coming at all hours of the night and my truck will have been busted into. I mean will the sheets be clean at least? So I figure I have at least 10 minutes to check the room out and look for cockroaches and unknown remnants left around. Hey ,the room was clean and it had a clean bathroom and clean sheets. It had a tv and microwave with a full size refrigerator next to it. If I were to complain there wasn't any shade on the lamp and you could hear quite clearly noises from the other rooms especially the showers. For what I paid, I' ld stay there again. All I need is a bed and shower. What do you expect for 40 bucks. So again I wonder, where are the good places to go near the tracks you have been to, or any horror stories.
On a side note, I had breakfast at Pancake Plus in La Plata Maryland with some good food. Nice size pile of home fries and like eight slices of bacon with the eggs. Yes I know, Entropy has a map in his car of all Popeyes in the states.

Pete,
Interesting topic!
yup, popeye's & waffle houses.
I like the cheapy motels, ones where you need to wear flip flops in the room, but I am often out voted.
For Texas Mile the America's Best Value in Beeville Tx has splendid rooms for $49.
Some hookers in the associated disco, LOTS of migratory craft laborers.
After 2 times there, i was outvoted...

I like to pay extra and stay at the nicer places. In fact, if it's an unknown area I will do quite a bit of reconnaissance. Many times we have jumped back on the highway and moved on a few exits down the road...

I used to fight that.
Then I bought a motorhome.
Now I sleep 10 ft from my bike, with a .44mag, protecting me, and my family.
Found a nice one cheap, 454 TBI, gets 10mph down south, and 9 going uphill to OK, no hotel needed, no concession stand food.
Get tired driving........pull over. Done.

Not for everyone, but as much as we race........., well worth it, and in the long run, cheaper, and less hassle........
Nice to shower before you leave the track, for the drive home.

And cool off with the AC in between rounds.

I really don't like to get into the AC, unless its like 100 out. I would rather be used to the heat, and then in the lanes, and on the line, it does not bother me.
