Muzzys "turbo" billet block
Hopefully Doug will get in on this..
what was the reason for going with the 84mm billet block as opposed to running the stock block at 83mm, or making an 83mm billet block?
I can assume that the billet is far stronger, but why make the cylinder walls thinner? does it help with flow? did they need room for bigger valves? will a 1224 make much if any more power than an1199 at the same boost level? any head gasket issues pushing 30 psi?

i'll admit i know nothing about that bike or claim to know 1/4 of what doug does..lol... BUT i can offer my .002 for what it's worth.
billet by FAR is superior in strength. both in tensile and modulus of elasticity. there is a grain structure with billet and depending on the billet used ( AND temper), can see upwards of 120Kpsi tensile. ( like 7075)
with a better metal you can get away with thinner walls as a way to cut material ( weight) and ( assuming it's a nikasil bore) theres less metal for the heat to have to travel thru as well.
no, again. .thats just me.. i could be WAY the hell wrong. lol
a 1224 at 20psi ( or.. whatever boost) will definitely make more power than an 1199.. simple displacement rule there.. BUT the tune of course ( as you know) is the factor there.. have a shit tune on the 1224 and it can make less power obviously than the 1199.
as far as big-boost motors are concerned, pretty much ( with some exceptions) 99% of the time an o-ring gasket is used. some guys will mill an o-ring pocket in the block or head ( the "rule" for o-rings is not to compress them past 55% of their O.D.) and let the o-ring handle the boost.
then again, some gaskets of course have that already built in.. not sure if those gaskets still need a groove milled in for the ring to sit in.. i have seen some odd aftermarket turbo gaskets for cars that have a built-in spacer that not only drops CR, but helps maintain that "rule" for o-ring compression.
thats about all i got. back to the garage to finish beating myself up thinking of ways to mount this turbo!! haha..

The cylinder walls aren't thinner- because since the block was made from "scratch" it could be made stronger with thicker walls & deck, have the o-ring grooves, etc....
It's a very strong part.

Thanks Doug, so it uses offset bores like Muzzys 1317 block?

Yea I remember that...... The power of a bunch of cry babies can amazing.... A bike built within the rules gets sidelined simply because the rest of the cry babies can't keep up.. Sadly this kinda stuff happens all to often. Hard work rewarded with 10 pounds of new lead to carry and if that's not enough they'll give you 10 more..Sad state of affairs.

You could buy my LSR turbo, Scott. It's pretty much the same except for the dry sump and air shifter.
We sold a few "turn-key" copies of Rickey's bike for 50K. You can have mine for 15.
I just don't have time to run it. I have this job thing goin' on......
