ZX12 bike with 61,4mm stoke and 87mm bore. This bike still has the electric starter on it, this is worldwide the first ZX12 engine with this application. Due to dragrace regulations the electric starter was a "must" , and this was not possible with 61.4mm stroke, so i designed my own crank. Bike is running with a (much) too smaal (stock) exhaust for this moment, the calculated and open exhaust is in production
stock for now i guess
Im wondering about the cam chain??

they may have used the cam chain from the skis, Im not sure on the length but the ski engine dimensions like I am using are 83mm bore 69.2 mm stroke. it would be interesting to see if you could use ski parts on the bikes, I am using bike cams, valves, pistons, and throttle bodies on my stx 15f. It might be worth looking into.

I want to know what it would do with an open side winder!

Doug said that Muzzys looked into using some parts, but it didnt work out for any easy gains, crank didnt fit ect. the cam chain may be the key though, are you using the ski cam sprockets or bike cam sprockets?
i know it was a tight fit with a 2mm spacer (only a few clicks on the tensioner) i would think 6mm would be a big challenge without modified guides or a longer chain

5 years ago this thread would have taken off like wildfire. i love seeing innovative folks, but the cc gain is really marginal. Hp is not going to be in the hunt these days.
1585cc ZX14's and 1600+cc Busa's are the competition...
Bottom line is that the work they did seems very cool, must be some personal satisfaction there.
hmmmmm....
maybe they can do some LSR and take away my ZX12's title of "world's fastest NA Kawasaki"??? ____________

muzzys had a bigger crank (7mm that required a starter cart), but as far as i know a 5mm really causes issues with the starter(and is usually the limit) these guys seem to have figured out how to get a 6mm... and the longer rods should help. i thought it was interesting anyway ____________

That base spacer is crazy tall!!
IMO the giant base spacer is giant bad ju-ju.
On my 1427, with an .080 spacer, 4.6mm crank, my custom short skirt pistons, the skirts come out of the block about .250" (from memory).
he's likely to have big skirt deformation issues.
If anyone knows this guy have him get in touch with JE, they now have a piston for the 12 based on a forging used for Busas, with much sturdier skirts

Karl, any more info on the tougher skirted pistons? (dads bike may need a set)
hey Scott:
from my records:
JE custom Pistons set #716554 ordered apr 8. 2009 from Brian
used new forging style, has cross bracing under dome, thicker skirts, other stuff, casting 985M, 6 gm heavier than before
Much sturdier pistons.
Previous pistons would lose .001-.0015" skirt diameter after very little use.
the new style holds up VERY much better.
You are measuring piston/cyl clearance every build yes?
I always tried to start out at .0018 - .0022 -ish
with the old style pistons the skirt deformed to the point where i had up to ,0040

Jim set clearance for me on the last build (he supplied new pistons and honed the block)
and I do plan on measuring from now on after the results from previous tear downs.
