Jim's MOJO 14 is running STRONG
And Rickey Gadson is riding the piss outa it!
His 1st gear throttle control is amazing.
He got 212 then 215 yesterday (foot shifting), after Rickey got his rookie passes out of the way.
Imagine RG with a Rookie sticker on his helmet!
More agressive gearing and a slight tail wind will get it into mid 220's today
(my prediction)

I seriously doubt that he's only running 215 in the 1.5 on a 1570. Those look like mile numbers.

so Im seeing on RGs FB status:
the final result is 217.86mph, on our last run we changed fuels to make more power and the motor literally "blew up" in my face at 219mph according to radar gun a fan had. it grenaded about 1/10th of a mile from finish line. I coasted thru bathed in oil at 196.95.

In the 1650cc class.... 215-217mph on motor are actually decent 1 Mile speeds when you take into consideration that the records are all between 220-228mph these days. Most of which were done on 1507cc Busa's.
People usually pick up around 8mph with the extra 0.5 mile over their average 1 mile speeds in similar conditions.
If I had to bet the farm, I'd say Rickey G. would have ran between 207-209mph in good conditions in the standing mile at Maxton.
How much power did this bike make on the dyno?

The engine is a 1570 and was making a dialed back 246hp. it was a little over 250 but we detuned it a bit for a safety buffer.
The reccord at loring was 222 mph set by Karl gunter with his zx12r last year. Thats the same day and same rider (Doug Meyer) that went 219 on my zx12r. There was a steady 15 mph tail wind most of that day.
so we had a few 217 mph passes with no or slight cross wind.
As for the motor, we made 7 passes on and it was running like a top all day on Q16. (116 octane) It is 16.2 to 1 CR. We made a bad decision to run C44 (98 octane) and it didnt like it at all and it didnt make it to the traps. We were running it fat but.
My bad I knew better and had a bad fealing about it before we even put the fuel in. I went back and fourth about using c44 or not. So i made a bad decision agenst my better judgement.
When we get it back to the shop I'll do a post mortum and try and find out exactly what happened to it, but at this point every indicator is pointing to detonation.
I'd have to disagree about the 207-209 mph. I think the bike would have been atsimilar speeds at maxton.

Sucks about the C44.
246rwhp dialed back? That's big power! 16.2:1 CR, geez louise! lol
Jim, is there a reason you feel this bike would be able to reach similar speeds with half a mile LESS distance? Did the bike reach 217mph in a mile then flatline for the remaining half mile? Just about everyone on N/A bikes loses around 8mph in the mile vs the 1.5 mile... even STOCK bikes.
My stock engine/piped 175rwhp ZX-12R went 187mph in the 9/10th mile on GPS, but went 195mph in just under 1.5 miles. Now that's with a STOCK motor, on GPS back-to-back runs in the same conditions. Only a sprocket change.
I'd imagine a 250rwhp bike would have enough power to continue acceleration HARD beyond the mile mark if stock engine bikes can do so. In fact, I know they do because I've seen the log sessions of an N/A 223+mph 1507cc Busa in the mile and with significantly less HP than your ZX-14. It's still pulling hard at the traps and would flirt with 230mph had the run been at Loring's 1.5 mile.
Congrats on the speeds either way! 217mph is still the fastest any N/A ZX-14 has ever gone if I'm not mistaken. Heck, spending the weekend with RG would have been enough to make me happy regardless of what the bike ran. =)

I went the same mph at maxton in april as I did at loring over the weekend. I am running naked , so I maybe hitting terminal speed quicker, but I dont think you can say everyone will pickup 8 mph . If you can accelerate hard enough to reach max speed in the mile you will see no gains...
maybe you should compare other bikes that ran at maxton in april with the speeds they ran at loring last weekend , when there was liittle or no wind.

I think you probably hit the wall aerodynamically, Roy, with your available hp. My bike definitely runs faster, even stock motor, given the extra distance. Even into a headwind. In fact, every fully-faired motorcycle I have ever ridden at Maxton has still been accelerating at the 1 mile mark...including Racheal's Turbo.
Jim should know, by the logs, when or if the bike stopped accelerating. But, regardless, this is a new motorcycle. I am sure that it will only go faster from here on out.
Congrats to Jim for building the fastest officially timed all-motor 14 to date!

Roy, I can compare 5 years worth of examples on 9/10th mile vs 1.5 mile runs in the same conditions. Not just on my bike, but on nitrous bikes, 1000's, Stock busa's, built busa's, etc...
Down here, the 9/10th Mile is open and held every week all year long. Plenty of data on what does what and how much is gained or lost for just about everything.
I think your Maxton speed vs Loring speed being the same may be the exception to the rule and there are a number of scenarios that could explain it.
The average is an 8mph difference between the two distances at these speeds.
Obviously, the LESS power you have the less distance is required to achieve terminal velocity. Take a Ninja 250 and it will only pick up a few mph from the 1/2 mile to the 1 mile mark. Now take a ZX-14 and see how much mph it picks up from the 1/2 mile to the 1 mile. Then compare the back-half gains on a Turbo Busa...
If you look at log data and compare the TIME vs RPM rate on any bike, you'll see that the more power it has, the quicker the rate of acceleration it will have at the traps in the mile. Unless of course, there is a problem like extreme detonation that causes the bike to lose power and thus the ability to continue accelerating and eventually the ability to maintain speed.
A bike could actually go slower in the 1.5 mile than in the 1 mile in an extreme case of this particular scenario. Most times, they end up blowing up before this happens.

I don't have that data, and even if I did... those are two different events with different conditions. I don't see how it would be any more conclusive than test data collected over many years with many different bikes doing same day, same time, same set-up back-to-back runs.
It's tough to argue with data collected using the scientific method.

CLASS ACT!!
For those unaware, last year Shane set a Loring record at 211.97+mph on his unopened stock motor ZX-14. This was also the fastest speed ever recorded by a naturally aspirated ZX-14, period.. up until now.

Jim, you definitely earned that honor and deservingly so. I'm sure it was no easy task putting together all the key components! Grabbing Rickey Gadson who's one of the best drag racers in the country, building a 250rwhp BEAST 1570cc race motor, and making the trip to run the 1.5 mile.

Years ago at Maxton the timing system would print out an entry speed and an exit speed on your ticket and maybe Todd can correct me if I'm wrong but I'm thinking it was like 132 feet.
It was neat because you could dial the bike in accordingly if it was laying over or picking up due to gearing changes.
My 12 would usually pick up 1-2 mph on a good pass............wish there was still data like that at our events.
Congratulations Jim on putting on a good show using an unproven package, I'm sure you learned some things and you'll apply it in the future for some more outstanding results.
Rickey can flat ride a bike, he taught Chad quite a bit about dragracing when they were team mates with Kawasaki back in 2004.
