Ping Tim
Tonight I got to use the custom bent probes you made for me. they work great!, I even used some of the shims to get them indexed correctly.
set cam timing to 105 106 with .095" and .080" PTV respectively (using a patented Tim Chin PTV tool ).
I havent really had a chance to fix the jointed arm yet

Awesome! I'm glad you were able to get those working. They aren't the most intuitive probes to use... I'd spend some time on that jointed arm, though - it will make your life a lot easier. BTW, the welding rod is slightly undersized relative to the holders and will spin in the threads, so the indexing shims aren't required. The shims are to adjust the 2" long probes if you decide to heat them and bend them, as I have done on occasion (before I figured out the welding rod thing).
Good job, dood! It looks like you're making real progress on your build, too! Nice.
EDIT: At first glance, I didn't realize that you'd trimmed your cam tower cap to expose the #1 outer lobes. The extension on the cap that obscured the #1 outer lobes is what the probes were designed to swoop around. Oh well, it looks like you were able to get them working with your setup anyway. Again, good job!

I cut the cap a couple yrs ago, but these worked much better than any straight probe ive tried before. getting the DI just about inline with the buckets direction of travel makes me feel much better about the accuracy of my measurements
besides busting a knuckle and a magnetic base it went great
