no it sailed right through

I finished lapping the valves and started matching the intake boots to the ports tonight. i just barely broke through the rubber to the aluminum on the sides and the port was opened up a bit at the top and bottom compared to before. i had these boots matched to what i had last yr. got a pic of the one matched boot compared to a stock boot aswell

it looks as if the devider (center "wall" of the port between the valves) has been moved inward?

So this is a Stage 2 Competition CNC ported head. so far I have OS bronze valve seats and 1mm OS EXH valves(Jim did last yr). Jim hand blended the ports to the valve seats, and I did the work to the combustion chambers and the boots.

I had these boots matched to my porting work(more of a clean up) last season, and here you see the difference of matching them to Jims port design

yes it was still dirty when i took the pics. its not anymore

working on it now

looks like ill need to match the exh gaskets too, the corners of the "D" shape are a little bigger than the ID of a used gasket. that or just use ultra copper with the spigots....?

I don't know what to tell you on that; I am not a big fan of using any sealants on the exhaust. I'm sure Jim or Karl might have a suggestion.

got valve lash where i want it on the IN side, but need to pick up some shims monday to finish EX side.

new 86mm JEs prepped for spray ( sharp edges and thin areas sanded down) and new pins, no rings weighed 339 grams, the pistons were 268-269 bare, i mix n matched pins to even up everything as they were a bit different too

it better be or im going to be really pissed lol

i shaved a gasket a bit

pistons, before and after

heres why i think a stroker 12 should be built with an unchamfered bore. a touch more skirt support or easy to put together. you decide. i didnt think i would be getting a stroker when i got this block thru an exchange program a couple yrs ago, but if i were doing it from scratch i would have no chamfer. we had dads block done with no chamfer because we know he will be getting a big crank somewhere allong the way. its not that much harder to fit pistons in it.

I forget, Scott. What is the history of your rods? Did you have them re-sized and put new bolts in, or ??

thats one nice thing about the 5mm stroke in the zx14... the bottom egde of the skirt doesnt drop below the bore. Even a stock stroke 12r the piston skirt pulls out of the bore.

the rods i had been using were toast, small ends oval from 2 seasons of hitting the pistons into the head. the pistons were 20 thou too small so were rocking in the bore. they either wore that much, or were never sized properly (i didnt check, just assumed APE had the clearance right on their exchange program so we will never know)
I got a set of good used rods from Chavcat. installed new bolts and had them sized to give a uniform oil clearance(rods are just slightly different sizes). 0.070mm / 0.00275 in worked very well last yr so thats what i went with again. im actually using the same rod bearings as last yr.
Cant beat the "racer discount" at the local machine shop (they have an 8 sec Mustang on drag radials). size 4 rods, check small ends for round, press adj sprockets off of old cams and onto new cams =$60

my latest squishin pic

looking at .031-.032" on all 4. Im thinking about trying it there. this is with using an .080" base spacer, .030" HG and a block thats been shaved about .003-.004" to make it flat again.

As per Dougs advise I checked for clearance with piston rock at the edge of the piston on the exhaust side perpendicular to the wrist pin. I zeroed a DI on the block and pivoted it over to the piston. I have the piston coming up .006" past the deck surface by pushing down on the intake side, and have it moving down .008" by pushing down on the exhaust side (.014 total movement/rock). this leads me to believe Im doing it correctly as I measured squish as .031" with a .030" head gasket. so I have .024" for clearance here

also checked for clearance for the os EXH valves. I had contact last yr, but the pistons were running way too loose in the bore. got about .032". I have it on good authority that .020 is all thats required. thx Jim

I didnt think solder would do here so i used something softer. our cabinet guy used to be a photographer so let me try some jewelers wax.
