the tool that makes me smile: Dyers rod bolt stretch tool
Yep, once again that tool made my night.
loose bolts:
__________Dec_4th___Jan_24
#1rear_____-.0003"____-.0003" (compared to the front)
#2rear_____-.0051"____-.0051" (compared to the front)
#3rear_____.0029"____.0028" (compared to the front)
#4rear_____.0043"____.0042" (compared to the front)
Bottom line: the un-stretched rod bolt length varied only .0001" from Dec 4 to Jan 24
Checking/setting all 8 of my rod bolts, stretch vs tq took 15min.
I LOVE that tool!

.0001 is pretty small. I imagine that even a relatively tiny change in temperature could cause that difference?
This is one of the tools that I intend to buy when I get to that point.

.0001" could certainly be due to temp difference, but i sure consider it within measurement accuracy.
I zero the tool on the front bolt, the get a measurement on the rear, tq 'em both (in this case 40#), then measure front and rear, then subtract the 2nd set of numbers from the 1st to get stretch.
Amazing repeatability.
I LOVE that tool!
