Anyone got any tricks to remove it, other than bead blasting?

i think it is buried in here Heath
http://www.focuser.com/atm/anodize/anodize.html

You can strip off the existing anodized layer from any anodized part by placing the part in a caustic solution for an hour or so. Just mix a few tablespoons of lye and water in a plastic container.

beware a small amount of sodium hydroxide can cause irreversable eye damage and/or blindness

I use aircraft paint remover to remove the coating on parts before polishing. You can get it from Auto Zone. I tried the oven cleaner it worked too just not as well.

Thanks for the tips.

I have used the aircraft paint remover before.......

I know you can't powdercoat the parts, with the anodizing on, and I am trying to get this bike looking really good this year.

I will say this...., factory wiring harnesses, are crap on the inside, crimp splice with about 2 inches of tape around the splice and done......., it scares me how many of those are hidden in this thing........

The regular stuff, not the lemon scent. The lemon scent will not work. Different chemicals.

Thats right, original formula.

I have never seen where aircraft stripper works to remove anodizing, and I have tried it. Any particular brand?

If you open the link I posted and scroll
down it goes through a good bit of detail
on all aspects of the processes....
When I found that site I thought it was just someone
advertising their stuff... but it's one of the best
as far as information on the process...
The removal is simple.... Disolve the drano
( or use any lye... Ie caustic solution) in water
soak the part... Use rubber gloves and eye protection
the caustic solution works at room temperature.... But
it always works more agressively at temps from
140-180.
If you read the link it goes over a lot of good info

The caustic solution is a chemical called
sodium hydroxide
it's what makes simple green, oven cleaner, castrol
degreaser, purple power,
lye soap.... Lots of cleaners work
call it what you want it's all the same stuff
just different concentrations

Have the parts just hot enough to where it does not dry the oven cleaner as soon as you spray it on. I would always lay the parts out in the sun to get them hot first. Might not work out this time of year..
