Turbo porn

Got my new turbo assembly from Andrew Pearce last night. I have some fitting and plumbing work to do, but it might make it to the Miami Mile Jan 3. The fabrication work is nice, very heavy gauge tubing, clean looking welds. 62mm compressor wheel should feed the 998cc pretty well

Nice! I don't know much about modifying bikes for LSR events, but I assume that your bike will look like this by the time you finish with your fitting and plumbing:
http://www.eyecandycycledesigns.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=64&fullsize=1

Unless it's just a perspective thing in the photo, it looks like a tight fit between the turbine housing and the front wheel, though. You might want to be careful when you apply the front brakes to make sure you don't load up the forks and put the wheel in contact with hard parts. On our GSX-R race bike, the front wheel makes contact with the lower fairing all the time...

Thanks guys, the clearance is a little tight, but the travel of the fork should carry it past the turbine. The perspective is weird.

If my bike looks anything like that abomination you linked to, I'll turn in my wrenches and take up knitting. Egads!

62mm. Wow that's what the 1300 bikes run. Going for that 250, bet you get it. Good Luck Dean. LSL

Thanks Larry, I hope so.

Ryan I know I'm beyond help when I can sit happily in a 36 degree garage gawking at a bunch of steel tubes stuck together. Form follows function, hopefully it'll live up to it's good looks.

Ho ho ho!

Dan, it's a ported shroud, which allows a larger compressor wheel to be used with less chance of surge, or airflow reversal. Here's Garrett's explanation;

A Ported Shroud compressor (see Fig. 2) is a feature that is incorporated into the compressor housing. It functions to move the surge line further to the left (see Fig. 3) by allowing some airflow to exit the wheel through the port to keep surge from occurring. This provides additional useable range and allows a larger compressor to be used for higher flow requirements without risking running the compressor into a dangerous surge condition. The presence of the ported shroud usually has a minor negative impact on compressor efficiency.

RG - that's my new 20T sprocket, barely fits

20 teeth?? I've seen kindergartners with fewer teeth. Those ZX-10 transmissions must be geared awfully short. A GSX-R would be close to 300 theoretical with 20/36 final drive gearing.

turbo porn indeed. i just moved to NC just south of maxton ( ) and i've got my eye on several electrical engineering jobs.. hopefully if i land one, i can finish my build..

the turbo and everything is gorgeous, tho, if i may, i will state one gripe= the way the charge piping was welded to the housing.. assuming your fabricators knew very well what he was doing and did it with precision, i personally prefer not to weld housings close to the scroll for fear of warpage.. and as well, the best be may have been to have a V band there instead, but.. nonetheless, it's gorgeous and looks absolutely fucking sick my man!

hopwfully i'll see ya soon at maxton and i REALLY hope i land some 80K a year job here and get my shit done and i can join you and everyone else at loring..

looks great Dean!.. best of luck on this seasons numbers.

Thanks Dean for the explanation and info.
I know of a car guy who is doing some testing for Precision & Turbo Technology and he is using a 6262 billet wheel model, it's making 800+ hp on a big block with only 14psi.
It looks just like yours only a tad bigger and I was wondering what the holes were for.
I appreciate your help.

No problem Dan, I just recently learned about it myself. Zack, as soon as I get tired of it I'll call you

Rick, I'm gonna focus a bit more on faired classes, but will run naked too. It's water-air intercooled, with a 2 gal reservoir, no heat exchanger.

Jim there's very little room for the up pipe, Andrew had a lot of things to avoid, there's really no other way to do it. When the radiator is in place it's more obvious. The sharp turn is a practical compromise. Good luck in NC, hope you find a dream job, and your bike is ready for the first Maxton meet.

The fitting work is moving along OK, so far so good. I'm revising a bunch of little things that have bugged me, but it's mounted and plumbed, just need to route some boost lines and wire the boost controller. Bit chilly in the garage, and this whole 'visiting family' thing is really cutting into my work time.

ya. i figured that was the "worst case" scenario and something necessary. the fab work is beautiful tho, nonetheless. i know all to well that sometimees you just can't clock a housing to the "right spot" no matter what ya do.
thanks for the good words man! either way, i'm hopin to see you and everyone else at maxton and loring this year! regardless of if i get my bike on the list or not.. i'll be your pit bitch like i did was ali.. lol (maybe a shared pit bitch? i might be in demand!)

Slowly but surely Karl, I'm just about to go back out this evening. My 6 month and 24 month-old nephews left this morning, and traded 90% of my energy for a nice new cold. It was well worth it.

I like lil kids, but they surely don't like you multi-tasking.

Get after it, Dean, you are on the home stretch!!!

Looks like we may have some wind in Miami, but perhaps not Loring 2009 type wind.
