There's a chance i may get deployed again in like april or may, but if i'm free I'd love to give the whole LSR thing a shot .
I think you need to safety wire some stuff, and also get a steering stabilizer.

well i don't have a drain plug to safety wire anymore... what else needs it? Steering stabilizer is on the way in a couple of months.

registration is open yet, but Mike B sounds serious about making the evnt happen:
http://www.mojavemile.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2
Just to let everyone know -- everything is going fine. We are signing our formal agreement with Mojave after a round of drafts and clearing up details, and Linda is working on the website as we speak. This process took a little longer than we planned, but there are no setbacks or concerns. The Mojave folks are a great bunch and have been nothing but supportive.
When the site goes up the rule book will be available for examination, and no doubt there will be questions on the board here. I will answer them all. Read the FAQs when the site comes up and you will get a broad explanation of race classes. When the entry forms go up on the site I will make an announcement and that will mark the beginning of us accepting entries for the event.
Here's a little taste of what will happen on the day, schedule-wise:
There will be early registration and tech on Friday afternoon. We will have a "host hotel" to do this, the Mariah Country Inn, which is very close to the airfield. We will enter the airfield from a road that leads directly to the paddock area from the Inn. Since this first event is deliberately planned as a 1-day event (future events will be 2 or 3-days depending on response), Saturday will start very early with runs beginning around 7-8 AM, and any Saturday registration/tech will take place at the paddock area. We will be running a continuous loop, that is, racers will make their pass on the runway, return on the parallel taxiway to the paddock, and re-queue when ready. On the way back, racers will stop at the timing tent and pick up their time slip. There will be a speed display sign in the paddock so you can watch your friends' runs, and we will post all scores periodically in the paddock area. We will not be running "by class" but instead will run first-come, first-served, bikes or cars, whatever lines up first. The only rule here is you must re-queue and cannot "jump" ahead to the start grid from the taxiway when you return. In a perfect world, we plan for 450 passes in the day, which will limit our entries to approximately 150, to try to get everyone a minimum of 3 runs for their entry fee.
It has been asked if we will be able to park trailers on the paddock the night before. (The Paddock will actually be on the airfield on their "Taxiway Bravo" and it is a very large area.) I am waiting until the agreement is signed to broach this question with Mojave, but it MAY be possible if their Security is willing to accept it. More on this later.
Many racers reading this have been or currently are racers with the SCTA or ECTA, and have asked about records and classes. It is our intent to evolve to a class/record system similar to theirs, but for this event we feel it is important to 1) Prove to Mojave (and ourselves!) that we are competent to handle a large number of racers on their property, and 2) learn exactly how many racers we can realistically deal with over a weekend. The logistics of running this event, while familiar to us, still need to be proved "on the ground" as they say. Once our act is polished up, we will evolve to this type of event. But, for now, come and run with us, have some fun, and take home a souvenir plaque and speed certificate, and make plans to come to the next meeting!

Another 1-day event?
It's not too tempting to drive 5k miles for 3 or 4 runs down a 1 mile runway at a corrected altitude near 3000 feet. They will probably get lot's of local participants though, I'm sure!

I'm thinking that there are going to be a lot of really slow runs made. I'm sure that all of the El Mirage guys will be happy to run on something other than dirt though.

Unless the wind is against us, why slow runs???
If temp is low, the DA won't be that different from a hot day in Texas or Maxton.
bawls,
no need to go to a shorter arm, I have made many, many 1mi passes with a 10" arm.
10" arm hurts a lil outa the hole, but at the big end i get the same grip as with stock or 6" arm.
TFA is looking for YOU to make some passes!!!!

I'm working it out with the wife right now. I have to find a truck to use, buy a steering damper, either a yellow box or bonneville pro, and invest in a good tire (probably a power one). I guess i should also get some good fuel and run the Maxton Map. Also, What gearing do you guys suggest for me? I'm hoping that all of the drag racing I've done is going to help me out there.
I guess that i should start getting busy lol. What's your guys opinion on lowering? Is it like drag racing where the lower the better?

What are the rules going to be there for licensing passes? It doesn't seem logical for me to spend a ton of money to go to a 1 day event where I will probably only get 4 runs and have to make 3 licensing passes.

you have a 14? i don't know 14 gearing
yup, the lower the better, but not too low.
I had mine sitting 1.5" off the pavement and it ground a hole on the bottom on the lowers.
whether that was due to bumps in the track or down force at speed??
now i set it up a lil over 2" clearance.
It is important to keep the front & rear heights "right" to avoid handling issues.
I used a stock zx12 as my reference, measured a point on the front and a point on the rear, then set up my bike the same (just lower) if that makes any sense.
LSR is as much a social event as a race. You'll love it.

they haven't said anything about licensing/rookie passes, but whether required or not, you for sure wanna do one or two.
Going fast at 1/4 mile or going WOT on a long stretch of deserted highway are both REAL different than going as fast as you can in a measured mile, then stopping kinda fast. Track awareness is critical. Mojave will have a long shut down and is wide, this is great.
Even still, required or not, i will limit my speed for at least the 1st pass.

That's a given... I just don't want to only get one all out pass for the amount of money it's going to cost me to do this. I'm a broke ass so it's going to take it's toll getting ready for this lol. I'm stoked. I think I'm shooting for 185ish first trip out.

how much hp do you have?
185mph target for the meet or the 1st pass
can you get right back in line after a pass, or will yr bike need pit attention after ea run?
my ole heap needs pit attention, look at logs, tweak map. This cuts down on my number of passes.
I love the 1/4mi, but in one sense LSR is way more fun, less stress.

I ride it every day, so i would hope that it's able to back up runs lol. At the pinks race last year I hot lapped 6 1/8th mile runs before I got fucked over in the semis on this run (which i should have won but had to shift right at the line and picked the front tire up over the beam which let the guy in the other lane break it before my rear tire could hit. He gave me a cut of the money that he won for getting fucked though lol. It'll just be cool to get to come out and hang out with everyone if I get to go. Are these things generally family friendly? I've got a wife, 3.5 year old, and a dog that might not want to be left in San Diego lol. I might be able to recruit some more guys to go. I know of a couple of 200hp busas here in san diego.

The old airplanes sleep in two places. The military airplanes go to Davis Monthan Air Force Base just outside of Tucson Arizona and most of the the Airliners go to Mojave.

Karl, what trip days are you planning for the Mojave Mile?
Also, what Salt event do you plan on attending? I might fly to saltlake and rent a car to hang out and help with TFA pit crew. Have you talked to Fred and Ryan to see which events they may be attending?

Very cool Rich, that is a good idea on a new thread. I'll see about looking up dates on all 2010 events and send them to Karl, maybe he can make a sticky. Get a good TFA showing at some of the LSR events. Cheese also said he would like to visit the salt this year as well.
