The bike pulls harder than the 12R through the earlier gears but oddly enough just can't seem to really put up more mph!

Unless it's a stock motor 12R...then a 14 can run as much dragstrip mph as some lightweight 12R jockeys who spray 40 . Right Shiphteey?

But, on a serious note, I found my 14 to pull more mph on top at the mile as well. It will be interesting to see how things develop in the next few years.

Yeah Shane but your 14 was way lighter, you became a way better rider and you never ran MR9 in your 12.

My 14 went 186 on my 3rd pass with pump gas, footshifting and and only 20 lbs. less (if that, even) total weight than the 12R. My 12R was a consistent 180-181 mph ride. The 14 has went 189-190 on pump gas, within 20 lbs. of the 12R. You can theorize all you want, but I own both bikes...and I have more passes on my 12R than the 14

I don't think you have ever ridden a 14 at speed, much less raced one, Ali. No offense, but I think I'm in a better position to compare the two! No question that the 12R is a great bike, and makes the most of it's cc's though.

It will be great to see what Jim and others can get out of the 14 in the years to come.

As long as they are silver, I think they both look good!

Having owned both like Shane, I found the 14 much more stable at speed. It's almost dead quiet and very smooth.
I like everything about the 14 over the 12 as far as handling, braking, power delivery but........
there's just something about the old 12 that still stirs my soul.

Shane, lets not forget that on your 12 you'd run mid 10s at the drag strip, and now on your 14 you run 9.00000s. Point being is your level of improvement is a BIG variable that makes a BIG difference. Too bad your 12 motor isn't stock, I'd like to see you run both at Maxton, same day back to back....oh well.

I don't mean to talk down to anyone, I just try to be clear. Everyone has a different level of basic engine knowledge.

I wont be riding the zx14 on the street. I doubt it will ever have a plate on it actually, it will be a LSR and Drag bike only.

Jim,

We all know that you NEVER talk down to anyone.

I'm thinking that Brooklyn just means that some of us (myself included) do not and will not ever have the mechanical / electrical capabilities to fully grasp all the questions and issues that are posted on this board.
There are several very, very sharp folks who frequent this forum and I for one try to comprehend what's discussed but sometimes I leave rattled but it makes me dig deeper.

I thank you for your expertise but mostly for the time you've spent over the years helping us all out.
Although I'm just a tinkerer........I get a kick out of reading the truly technical stuff.

Good luck with the 14 project, we're all looking forward to the build up. It's evident how much we enjoy these things by looking at the post count of Shanes excellent topic.
